Someone told me the cap for haste gear pre nerf was more than 25%, but I thought that was only Job Ability haste(desperate blows etc). Was gear haste cap 25% pre nerf and remained 25% after or was gear haste higher?

haste from gear always been 25
New total cap is 80% instead of old was 90%.
Equipment caps at 25%
(I think this includes Apoc aftermath now or something weird)
Magic/Songs caps at approximately 43% or some odd number.
Hasso caps along with Last Resort(EDIT: I meant Desperate Blows), so DRK/SAM only needs 3 merits in DB.
There was no overall cap pre nerf. You could get to 93.3% with all the stuff add together (gear 25% cap, magic+song 43.3%). It is not known if there was a JA cap like we have now at 25% cuz the most we could get was 10% from hasso and 15% from DB. But now we can get 25% from DB on its own.
I believe all the RC zerg caught SE by surprise so I don't believe there was a JA cap, and there probably wasn't an overall haste cap. So yea, if we didn't invent RC zerg, we could have reached 100% with the tier II merit update, well, at least til they realize it and nerf it.
According to other threads it's slightly above 25%
It is, you need 26% in gear to cap gear haste.
to be clear turban isn't 5% haidate isn't 5% etc etc slightly less

The cap is still 25%, it's just that the haste values shown on equipment are overvalued. That 5% on Turban isn't really 5%, it's less, etc.. So yes, you do need at least 26% valued equipment haste to attain the 25% haste cap, but it's incredibly misleading to claim that the cap is over 25%. Use 25% for your calculations, use 25% for lyfe.
Too bad they can't display the actual Haste% values in game. I wasn't trying to be misleading when I said equipment caps at 25%, although I do remember reading about the displayed total of 26% giving you the actual capped 25% result before.
Which is yet more proof SE knows the playerbase is made up of math wizards who solve all the stat puzzles, I guess. Stat puzzles they have no justification for, albeit...
(Also, Tubbers, that face is hilariously scary hideous.)
it's the rage face, it personifies /v/
Let's put it this way:
Due to FFXI math, you need 26% Haste in gear to get to the 25% Haste cap.
All Haste is provided as a fraction of 1024. The % numbers you see in item descriptions are FREQUENTLY inaccurate. For example an item with 50/1024 haste might be listed as 5% in the item description. The descriptions are typically close but not always perfect.
We have the same problem with % damage reduction gear (proven against 1000 needles).
Remember that the text you see on a piece of gear is merely a plain text description that somebody typed in.
Someone (Kaeko? Started with a K I think.) has an amazing thread about haste and haste gear numbers and testing. Feel free to search it up.
Kirschy.
Thought that was Kirschy here on BG. Maybe it's just because of who did a lot of the tests.

[EDIT: What Shinryuu said while I was searching for threads to link.]
FFXI math gives New Math a run for its money.
(Where did Neil Patrick Harris go, Izzy? His eternal fight with Captain Hammer plus your Mjollnir made an indestructible mnemonic link...)
