    Rapture

As we know, SE is making Rapture. I would rather them not. If you could hand over the FFXI tools to another company, who would it be? Or, if SE could just keep the fantasy lore we love and have another company develop the game play mechanics, which you choose? I just feel that FFXI would have done great, if it wasn't for SE.

SE is always shoving their cock down your throat anytime they develop an AV, horrible drop rate (hi2u PW pop items), 3 day HNMs, or any 1-day event of choice (MMM comes straight to mind).

Who would you hand the gauntlet to?

The differences make it worth it. SE built an MMO from the ground up instead of copying the mold. These threads are so old, if you don't like the gameplay try any other MMO out there, they all play almost identically in contrast. Sometimes companies ruin their own game listening to retarded suggestions from their playerbase, sometimes maybe they don't listen enough, but you can't make Rapture without having made FFXI first. It wouldn't BE Rapture. This is their learning ground and hopefully they won't listen to the retarded suggestions to make it play just like WoW thus ruining their own game before it even gets off the ground.

Honestly I don't think Rapture will take FFXI's place for a long time, if ever. I like the way this game was designed even though it has plenty of flaws, I don't think any other company could have done a better job with it. I don't think I could get into another game that doesn't allow you to switch between jobs so easily, or gives a watered down storyline, or that requires less teamwork ~ idk why, but I've always liked the fact that you can't get much done without joining up with friends and putting some effort in.

If Anyone here had Wishes, Real Wishes, would they REALLY waste them on this? pointless conjecture is pointless. If FF Endgame does not satisfy, /endgame.

I will give a real answer despite everyone wanting this thread to die.

Keep everything the same in FFXI but give it the customer support and GM's of Blizzard and this game will be perfect.

Too many times have SE thrown the BANNED grenade into a crowd and hit more then just RMT cheaters and dupers... And their unwillingness for the longest time to not help when you get hacked was stupid.

Let's take your favorite game for example (MMO or not). Let's say the company that made the game would keep developing content for it for a long time. Of course you'd play it for years, having fun at the same time, but at some point, even if the game were your favorite, I bet you'd get bored of it. You might also find flaws you didn't notice before.

That said, I think no other company would have done as good with FFXI as SE did. Even though I'm getting bored of it right now and find drop rates and slow gameplay and little problems annoying, it doesn't change the fact that the game is very good IMO. I enjoyed it for good 4 years, and even though it has lost it's appeal now, for those 4 years I thought the game was excellent.

You know we could just copy+paste the last Rapture thread here and it would be the same thing.

wrong actually, they copied sonys mold with everquest. The difference is, Sony saw themselves make mistakes and worked very hard to fix them in later expansions. graphic updates, working better for the consumer, beatable large bosses that were actually supposed to be defeated (sleeper wasnt supposed to be killed), instanced content

they copied EQ just forgot to continue to adapt all the way

I don't think it's a totally invalid concern in feeling that important attention toward FFXI will be lost to Rapture. Updates are sparse as is, and the feedback process is perpetually like pulling teeth. Some of the dev team was already lost to Rapture's production, what might happen when the game goes live?

As for ideal inheritors of the MMO, I think Sonomaa nailed it, intentionally or otherwise.
Sony could carry on FFXI very well, what with the experience gained from Everquest, of which FFXI is essentially a carbon copy.

I'm still suprised there is yet no MMO which also adopts the multijob system of ffxi. Se did alot of things right in ffxi, some good things have been copied (ie auctionhouse ) but sadly not all.

On that note, if Rapture does not have the job system I doubt I will be interested.

I know this is off topic, but In the upcoming Ragnarok Online 2, the Norman race will be able to change jobs.

Just to be factual, the update notes for the March update are late (likely caused by the effort that had to be put into bans from the duping) but the amount of updates is on the same pace as they were for the last couple of years.

Also, FFXI has had a lot of changes over the years and have added a lot more than other games that are as old as FFXI have. Remember FFXI was a generation 1.5 MMO. After EQ but before the major overhauls of games like WoW and EQ. The development cycle for these games is years behind the actual release dates. I think it is very flippant to suggest that SE hasn't done anything with this game. It's the same kind of attitude that makes the argument that SE knew about the dupe but decided to do nothing about it.

FFXI is a great game. The only thing holding it back is SE. Hopefully for Rapture they learn from their mistakes and get more involved with the community next time around.

The best thing SE can do is drop PS2 support *some day*. Or just separate the PC build from the PS2.

This would allow them to hire a slightly larger team, release an updated client with upped textures, engine optimizations and new gameplay UI similar to what EQ, Ultima and Eve have all done.

An overhaul like that could easily add 4-5 years onto it's life span, bring in thousands of new/returning players and allow the profit to fund some new expansions to keep us all happy.

Do it. Do it. Do it.
