Get More Malmage from Your Equipment with Augmented Items! (03/17/2009)

Read on for the exciting details!

The upcoming version update will usher in the "Augments" system, a new feature that will shatter your preconceptions about equipment and breathe new life into some of your most treasured pieces of armor.

Any veteran adventurer knows the feeling:
A beloved breastplate that served you in countless epic battles...
A cherished cuirass that fended off many a vicious enemy blow...
Equipment once treasured, now auctioned off for a purseful of gil or relegated to a dank, lonely corner of your Mog House in favor of more potent apparel better suited to your burgeoning abilities.
What could be done to give these items a longer lease on life? This is the question we asked ourselves, and in the next version update, you can experience the answer—the new Augments system!

Let's examine how it will work.
    http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics...226/4226_0.jpg
*This development screenshot may not represent the final product.

As illustrated above, players will be able to customize certain pieces of equipment by adding two augments of their choice to supplement the item's base attributes. This new feature will allow for two pieces of armor bearing the same name to possess distinct capabilities, specially tailored to complement the skills of the wearer.
A wealth of heretofore unseen diversity in adventuring attire awaits you!

Needless to say, the development team is hard at work to ensure that augmented items can be enjoyed by the widest possible range of adventurers, while preserving game balance with existing items available through questing and synthesis. Furthermore, to maintain the items' exclusivity, it will not be possible to trade them to your companions, nor sell them via the auction house or bazaars. Adventurers looking to acquire augmented equipment will have to do so by their own courage and valor!

We'll be sharing even more information on this exciting new feature come release day, so be sure to check back for all the latest details!

Let's see how people bitch about this (because you all know it's coming lol.)

So basically, all of those 'useless' armors will now shoot up in price, gonna be good times. Can't wait to see what the restrictions are aside obviously not being able to add 'skill' to the gear (assuming, because they did say they want to keep it from stepping on quested/synthesized gear). So..hmm..

Level 1 Robe set will not only still be ugly as sin, but can now be helpful for mages starting out.

So we know for sure HP/MP/Stats are able to be added, wonder if elemental resistance can be added...since you know how some people love their resistance builds.

Gonna assume this is saying something was copied from 'WoW'..since they supposedly invented the MMORPG genre? <.<

My guess is it's only useable on vanilla types of equipment.

not at all, items are customizable by sockets on the piece of equipment ala diablo 2 in wow, just surprised it took so long for FFXI to implement it

So every item that had 0 stats aside from defence will suddenly become useful. I wonder if SE always had this in mind from the beginning and its part of their cunning plan, or whether its just something they've come up with.

    Either way, very interesting...

    Good Idea

Personally I think this is an awesome idea mainly because of the fact that there are certain pieces of gear that suck with no stats and NEVER get used so this way people will start using them and hopefully get really get stats

Hmm vanilla types of equipment eh? So basically gear that won't gain boost through synthesis is likely judging by what they said. That's still a hell of a lot of gear. Let's just hope they don't allow things like Haste <.< Unless they make augmenting gear pretty hard/restrictive.

I hope people don't think they can add 5 more str on to their haubergeons . If you can though.... This kinda looks like it'll turn it R/e of some sort? Maybe a way to keep high priced items on an account type of thing. But that would be asking for way too muCh.

Could be epic win or epic fail. I'll remain impartial till I see it.

hmm, where did my Lamia Harp go...

If weapons are included, then it won't be a bad idea to "unleash" the Nyzul weapons with some custom stats maybe... perhaps on a job that you don't play often but have the weapon for.

Anyone for a list of high level armor with no latent/stats?

EDIT: Level 1 RSEs spring to mind for some cool augments...

Oh, isn't that just great. Till now all the dust gathering "useless" memorial items could gather dust in a mules Mog House, now they have to gather dust in the main's Mog House cause they augement.

We really need many many more slots to store all the untradeable, unsellable stuff SE likes to introduce.

Can't wait to see how this works, and what the costs are going to be. Could breathe serious life into different parts of the game... maybe.

Pretty darn sure that nothing will change for 99% of the endgame players who will still always use their (not augmentable) blurpleberks and ass helms. Maybe its something nice for those that are leveling subs to get some stats on those DEF only gears you get around those levels.

Gonna be fun for all those new people starting out who will get to buy lv1 Robes from the AH for 100k after the patch (vendors sell it for ~100gil, I know).

Hmmm... sounds promising, but somehow, I think there will be an unbalance that'll have people raging on BG within days of the update.

The game can call iirc 2400 slots for 1 person, however while live it can only call 80 slots to avoid strain. I really don't think they expect people to go to the AH, buy every level 1-50 piece of gear that's statless, augment them, then complain they have no space.

Protip: This game is about more than just end-game people, there's still new people joining and even more so now that it's easier to get, so don't you think it's more tailored towards lower level players? Most end-game players level their subs naked and gimped as all cardinal sin on purpose.

This is going to be good for jobs that get shafted on gear choices at certain levels at least. I don't think that jobs that already have a wide selection of gear will benefit as much.

I'm interested in how the banner picture applies. Looks like you will have to use your gear under certain conditions to 'augment' them. Can't wait to try it out.

I want to augment B.haidate so thf can wear them XD
