I think I'm gonna start watching more. In my limited experience, it seems like they tend to take pop/rock sensibilities but put way more thought into the lyrics, melody, harmony, just about everything.

think its cause guys dress up in costumes and sing to each other
Suddenly Zaaaaalius
Is standing beside you
but n'sync sang to girls and i'm pretty sure they were still fags.
Whenever you find the answer Bagel, teach my fiance. At least he handles it well when I make him watch them now and then. (Last one was Rent <3 )
The answer is because 80% of the males in them are in fact gay. And this cannot help but come through the character. That and the whole busting out into song in the middle of the plot thing.
Also musical theater people... bleh
Because I've never seen one that's not campy as hell.
And it's impossible for one to not be as campy as hell, because they're busting out into song for no fucking reason.
At least with Opera they're singing more or less the whole time.
Which leads me to the point that oratorios are the best, because you get the cool opera music without the ridiculousness of "acting".
fuck you all
yeah, everything that's been said combined with the fact that often you do not need 4 minutes of musical interlude to discuss, describe, or develop the plot in any way. basically you end up stretching what is essentially 30 minutes of material into an hour and a half because of the lame singing/dancing. musicals are 75% fluff, and fuck fluff.
Do you shave?
If not, I'll fuck your fluff.
If so,
Nah, still fuck.
ok ok ill admit i MAY be ghey as hell but Once More With Feeling is better than most non oral things ive encountered in this incarnation
musicals rock my cock.
and not in an ambiguously or openly gay way either.
Depends on the musical but I like many of the songs. For some reason, Hurricanes and Butterflies by Muse reminds me of a Musical number.
Musical theatre is the domain of those who can neither act nor sing well enough to be a worthwhile artist in a legitimate discipline.
I shouldn't be allowed to agree with Shue, but I can't help it in this case.
In any case, it's not just musicals, most 'culture' and 'entertainment' has that sort of stigma attached to it. Men typically detest the ballet or opera or whatnot just as much as musical theatre - amusingly the theatre would be the most accessible and easily understood to the general public.
I of course disagree with Shuemue. And there are mediocre people in every field.![]()
Oh I'm Shuemue now? I see, Ashira.
