    Xbox 360-FFXI question.

I read somewhere you can play FFXI on the 360 without using the disk. How?
    And thanks

False; you can install the game on your HDD but it still requires the disk thanks to Microsoft's copy protection shit.

And to add to that, any changes you make to your xbox that allows you to play your game(s) without having the discs in the drive could put your gamertag at risk and since POL accounts are bound to your gamertags, you could be putting your whole accound at risk. TL;DR... Not worth it.

I hardly recall what it was I read, tho I would lean towards a software solution being what I read about. Certainly wouldn't risk my gamertag. My GF's just gonna have to understand that the 360's gonna need a break every couple hours ;P. Thank you.

I've played for extended durations on the 360 with very few issues. Just make sure to give it plenty of room to "breathe" and don't rest it on a furnace or anything like that. Just as you'd cool your PC and what not. And the game sort of runs without the CD anyway, it just uses it to "verify" which is why you install it to your HDD anyway.

Not true! you could just call se and get them to unlink it and then link it to another GT!

If what I heard is right, it's worth copying the FFXI disc to your HD (assuming you got a harddrive larger than 20gb, given FFXI's installation will eat half of that alone) for the sake of not having your DVD-ROM drive constantly spinning the entire time you're playing the game, regardless of the fact the disc isn't used *at all* after initial boot-up verification.

Less wear on the drive, and quieter 360 to boot.

On my old XI install on my 360 ( started on PS2>360>PC), but I dont recall seeing a "launch" option w/out the disk.

Been gettin my XI fix on the PC for the past 2 yrs, forgive my not understanding, and thank you for the tips/help. Mucho's gracias.

Oh yeah, i made curculation the #1 priority. Even had the loud clip on fan for the back of it. I'm tryin to minimize wear and tear to the dvd-rom drive.

I'm sure I read somewhere that someone fully installed XI onto there(sp) 360 and bypassed the disk. Either way tho, my GF wont put more than an hour ot 2 on it per sit down anyway.

Would be nice to emplament either way.

I got my 360 on launch day and got FFXI for it the day it came out, that was awesome because I had been playing on PS2 since NA launch for it, and I am the type of person to stay logged in 24/7 and never log out. My 360 was prob on for 360/364days for the first year I had it on 360 and it still is running to this day, never once had a RRoD or any other problems.

I always kept my 360 on its side with nothing anywhere near it and that big ass box they call a powercord ontop of a shoebox so it wasn't just sitting on carpet. Always pulled the dust out of it once a week or so too just to be sure. Now I play on PC for the last year and it's 10x better I haven't used my 360 in months :X

Quoted for truth, editted for correctness.

I've owned my 360 for 3? years and it's seen far more use than the average 360, yet I've never had it RRoD. The only problem I ever had with it was that my house was struck by lightning and the ethernet port died, so I sent it in and said it had intermittent RRoD problems, and they fixed it for free npnp.

Also, PC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> PS2 >> 360. In terms of awesomeness at least. PS2 edges out 360 because it's so easy to claim on PS2 and so unbelievably impossible on 360.

What he means is with the change to the Xbox "OS" (For lack of better words), you can copy a game's disc to the HDD. One way to help things run smoothly is to copy the disc to the HDD and then run the install from HDD.
