    Weird AH Activity

Eh whatever, I'm the douchebag I guess. Can delete/close.

admin: Removing posts because you didnt like the answer is a bannable offense, since youve been here since 2006 you should know this.

Kinda stumbled onto this by accident, but some weird shit went down on the AH on sunday. Items like Potent Belt and Woodsville's Axe were jacked up in price from 70kish to 330k by the same group of buyers and sellers.

Also, these same people "lowered" the price on Siren's Hair, Wind Torque, Chiv Chain, Elemental Torque, D Cloth and maybe some others. They were pretty good at switching up who was buying and selling and what the exact price was, but they all were either buying or selling the same group of items for the out of whack prices.

Without FFXIAH it would be impossible/difficult to catch this, but its quite obvious when you view these players on FFXIAH and look at extended price history. So yea...don't go selling your items from way below the standard price just because of the AH History in-game, I see a few legit players might have been caught up in it. No idea what their motive is for lowering some items, suppose there must be something.

Also, after checking on some other servers, it seems like its happening at least on Asura and Bismark. Its really damn complex on Asura, as their price history for these obvious gil sellers (or w/e they are) is a bit longer and has more items they are screwing with (Snipers Ring, Flame/Snow rings to name a few).

Its pretty overwhelming for something like potent belt, where I cant even go back far enough to see what the price was before they did all this crap. Also, what really confuses me on Potent Belt history on Asura is that obvious RMT bought and sol to eachother for 50k on potent belt, then a day later they start buying and selling to eachother (different names, but obvious RMT) for 330k. So what the fuck.

LS mate had an idea that perhaps they were laundering gil around but it just seems like an odd way of doing that, but suppose its viable. Anyone else discovered this and have any ideas?

This happens so god damn often and everyone makes a thread for this amazing discovery. It's been going on for a long time now, nothing out of the ordinary.

Eh, first time I've ever seen it or heard of it and i frequent these boards a fair amount, wouldn't exactly call it "nothing out of the ordinary" either way. Any thoughts or conclusions about why its happening? Or just acting like a douche with no real input?

I too notice this from time to time, I just refuse to purchase said item and move it on along. It is annoying as hell, yes.

GM wont do shit besides tell you not to buy it and about how "the price will come down eventually" etc...

Theres price manipulation and then there is just plain weird, I've been around long enough to see prize manipulation and this is different than what i saw as status quo for RMT stuff. Just seems like something more to me.

it's much like a pump and dump scam. Pump and dump - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
they buy up some of the items then resell them to themselves at higher prices. this sets the price point of the items higher allowing them to dump their inventory at higher prices before the price point resettles to a normal level. it's not new, it's not an amazing discovery, and if you search maneater and a few others, you'll find these boards peppered w/ the same thread as this one a dozen times over. i'm not trying to be critical, just trying to educate.

lol then explain to me what it is. It's not hard to understand why they would jack up the price of some shit. It's not even hard to understand why they would drop the price of yet others.

But you seem to have some completely better theory economists haven't yet thought of, so please educate us

Actually he's spot on, and seeing as your join date is 2006 you should have been aware of this.

    1) Do a search.

    2) It's not new.

    3) Some might consider bringing up a very old issue and calling it an amazing discovery kinda douchey.
