Anyone playing FFXI on an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450?

...and not getting the retarded fucking flickering texture glitch?

If so, could you please share which driver you are using with me?

Also, could flickering/overlapping textures be more of a driver issue, or a settings issue? Is there anything I can do to alleviate the issue?

    Thanks in advance!

Right now I'm using an HD 3450, not mobility, though. I didn't see any drivers on the site for a mobility HD 3450.

If it helps though, for my HD 3450 I am using 8.493.0.0

I'm running 8.533.0.0 - which is the newest one... it didn't seem to change anything (which isn't surprising...)

Do you get flickering textures (like the flags in bastok, etc)...?

I sometimes get flickering textures from the lights next to doors (like the lanterns outside the Sandy entrance in ronfaure). Other than that, I haven't noticed any other flickering. I'm waiting on an HD 4650 to arrive at my house though, so I hopefully won't have any problems with that.

the problem with laptops is the manufacturers want you to use their drivers instead of the drivers straight from the card makers, which is stupid. fortunately for you there is a tool for ATI cards which allows you to mod the desktop drivers to work on mobility cards. This will install the truely newest drivers for your card, not the dumbed down version that your laptop maker is forcing you to use (version 9.4!)

for ATI cards, its called Mobility Modder.

    http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php

For this to work you will to follow the directions on the site (or below here)

    Installation step by step guide

1: Download MSXML 6.0 from Microsoft. (Default in Vista) - Install.
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    Step 2 is VISTA ONLY

2: Make sure UAC control in Vista is turned off. If you don't know how to do this then read this guide (method 4 is the easiest) or click the "disable UAC" in Mobility Modder.net - please note you MUST reboot after disabling UAC. If you don't want it disabled permanently, you can turn it back on after our mobility tool has finished, but it won't mod the drivers correctly with UAC ON.

3: Download the newest desktop drivers from www.ati.com (or get them from Driver Heaven Downloads). If you are using Windows XP make sure to download .net framework from Microsoft (this is built into Windows Vista so there is no need to install it). I modded this with the drivers for you.

    XP 32-bit driver: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...cc_wdm_enu.exe

    Vista 32-bit Driver: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...cc_wdm_enu.exe

4: Run the downloaded driver, let it extract into c:/ATI/SUPPORT - but cancel the installation once the driver is extracted.

5: Run Mobility Modder - browse to the driver in C:ATI/SUPPORT/ - an example of Catalyst 7.4 would be C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 - hit modify. Wait until driver is modified.

6: In Vista, go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 (Or whatever the driver installation folder was called), and run the SETUP.EXE. Please note you might see a "Driver is not WHQL certified", ignore this, as it is a side effect of the modification.

7: Wait until Install is finished and reboot. Enjoy the new drivers!
good luck and please post back your results
