Video file converter?

Does anyone know of a program that will take one video file (say .rmvb) and convert it into a different type? (eg .avi) I've downloaded some videos and I want to convert them so I can put them onto my zune/I want them in .avi format, does anyone know of a program that will allow me to do this?

Ideally I would like a program that will convert any video type into any other, if possible.

gives you a wide selection of things to do also let you put subtitles, also virtual dub subtitles if you know how to use it.

avc any video converter i think is the name, works well. But I haven't used anything else, and have only made a total of 2 movies from fraps movies.
