Returing Player In Need for some advice...

Hello Everyone. I just recently returned to this game a few days ago, after a years break or so. I have 75RNG, 75RDM, 58PLD, and a few other jobs in between 15-40. The craft i was leveling up back when i still played was Clothcraft which is level 52. My questsions are :

Can this craft make me money nowadays or in the long run if i keep leveling it?

Should i just start another craft? i have around 900k of gil atm

Is there anything i can make with a high HQ rate for profit?

my other crafts are Woodworking 14, Smithing 20, and Leather 3. I want to try to stick to a craft and get it to 100 and hopefully be able to make a living on it. I'm not sure about Cloth, i dont see anything i can make now or later for a good income. Maybe im overseeing it, but like i said i have been gone from game for about a year or so. Any information ill highly appreciate it.

    Thanks

You're not going to get better answers here than when you posted on alla...BG will probably be even less kind.

My advice: don't waste your time or gil. Getting a craft to 100 is a huge undertaking. If you have to even ask this question, you're not prepared for it.

The most obvious answer is: Don't come back to FFXI.

Clothcraft (like many crafts) for profit is almost obsolete nowadays. You can however find the odd item that might be the "flavor-of-the month" which you can jump on for some quick gil. Other than that my only advice is to see what items are in your tier 2-3 range that sell both quickly and at a decent price. You could try doing tier 1 items but at 10%-ish hq rate I find it's not worth the time. Also...if you have a thf at your beck and call that would help alot also. Granted you spend time farming but if you have the time and aren't busy with endgame every night of the week then this might be the path for you. Also...if you do find something DON'T flood the Ah with it because that's guarenteed 100% to devalue it. You'd be surprised at how many people cant seem to grasp this concept. Most people put stuff up with the thought "i'll just put up 2x"item" and they should sell fast....what they fail to realize is that everyone else is thinking the same thing and before you know it there's a crap load on the AH. Personally if I see more than 5 items on the AH that i'm trying to sell I'll wait until they get down to 1-2...that way I can manipulate the price a little better and get what I want for the item (within reason).
A little research can help lots with this and any craft. Goodluck.

There are far too many high level clothcrafters willing to accept razor thin profits or even losses due to unrealistic HQ expectations. The advice I give to every up and coming clothcrafters is you will be disappointed.

Leathercraft would be a nice way to recycle your Clothcraft, but money is tough these days with Leather.

One that's relatively easy and a decent albeit slow money maker is alchemy. Maybe I'd recommend that if you don't want to spend too much and get a decent return. It won't make you rich fast but it can be a nice, stable source of income if you synth regularly.

You can make more money leveling all the crafts to 60 than you will by taking one to 100. Smithing and GS won't return gil at 60 but others will.

Start with Alchemy, and if you find you are smart enough to level it to 60 and make gil along the way, then look into more crafts. If you can't figure out how to make some gil with Alchemy at that level, crafting probably just isn't for you. Just go farm whatever sells.
