Removing Secuirty Token

So I got my token, signed up, got my satchel, then i went online to my SE account, and canceled the token.

now i can't get online, i've set one time password to do not use~, i attempt to log in as normal (password entry screen is back to normal) it then attempts to connect and tells me i not entered password/token code correctly

any ideas? do i need to cancel my SE account? (remember i did already cancel the token)

well, i was so i went into it, checked what it said if i canceled the account

something along the lines of: all servics related to this SE account will end.

figured it was the right thing to do, so i canceled it.

edit: which btw hasn't worked ;/ & 3am now zzzzzz hope some suggestions for when i wake up

I canceled my SE account once and unable to log in my FFXI account, So I called SE service support to recovery my SE account. Success log in my FFXI account. I dunno about token, maybe it's same thing.

When you cancel your token you must still use your SE account log-in (the user name and password you created). If you cancel your SE account you cant log-in at all (once you linked it to a POL account that is).

cancel token = no need to use 1 time password ONLY. you still need your SE Account password

once you linked POL ID to SE account = forever need SE account's pw to log in, with or without token

cancelled SE Account = your screwed, call the information center now

Does anyone know if if the token provides some kind of signal when it's low on battery? That would really be the ideal situation :/ then you could remove it yourself before it runs out without having to call SE..

Why not just call SE and tell them you lost your token and you need access to your account without the token?

What do people don't understand, when you link your account to SE basically it is forever and you have to enter that SE password forever. If you cancel the SE account it's like deleting your char or the POL ID.

The only thing you can do is unlink token BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO TYPE THE SE PW

If you guys think you can go back to before this SE/token with extra space, no, the want people NOT to share accounts so they made this SE account.

If I read correctly in SE's info (reading is fun) once you open it, it will shut itself down, so even if you replace the batteries, the token won't work. This was done to make them tamper proof. So yes, you have to call them in 7 (?) years when the battery supposedly runs out and going by the stories of other people using tokens like these for years, the time the battery has described on the device is pretty accurate.

According to the info SE gave, the token gives a visual signal once it runs low. Rest already answered.

read that image and thought it applied to the SE account, not my FFXI account.

i still think it's alittle foolish not to say "you won't be able to play ffxi", it's hardly outrageous to believe that canceling your SE account will cancel your SE account, and that alone.

edit: also, image says something will be canceled, the ffxi account i done this for wasn't canceled, so i guess that 2nd point is invalid here

Only if you have a seperate SE ID and token for each POL ID. Deactivating a token is all-or-nothing, you can't have it partially linked, as it links to the entire SE ID, not the IDs attached to the SE ID.

If you had read the page while linking your POL IDs, you would have seen that linking to an SE ID is PERMANENT. That means that canceling the SE ID cancels all IDs linked to it. You can never get rid of the link to the SE ID and go back to just using a POL ID without it, once you start using the SE ID.
