Avatars/TeleCrystals/ghrah drop framrate halp

Everytime I get near any of those on my new laptop my fps drops to 5, and I get a huge lag spike. Im pretty sure I read here that it gets fixed with the right gpu drive, but it doesnt say which. Im using GeForce 9300M GS version 179.48 beta, any ideas?

Try setting your background resolution to be the same as (or an even multiple) of your screen resolution.

I remember that used to be a problem with certain nvidia cards/drivers...but I thought they'd fixed it.

I can't say which specifically, but there is definitely a driver that will fix that problem. Unfortunately, the driver that fixes the FFXI issues doesn't work with TF2. ; ;

I had that problem and I fixed it by doing why Snicky said. I had set my background resolution to maximum just to see how it would perform, and those things pretty much completely froze me. Once I reverted it the avatars and ghrahs were fixed. Teleport pads still lag the hell out of my entire computer, but I can just run away from those.

You could just remove the glow with a hex editor.
