Do some people talk unnecessarily loud around you?

I'm talking about people at my work, specifically one person. They talk louder, not shouting loud though sometimes it can get near shouting loudness, but the office is very quiet but they have to talk loud. I think it breaks the threshold of usual noise level needed to hear clearly, so it's annoying and bothers me. I can't concentrate as well.

Does anyone else have these people around them? And why they have to talk at a higher loudness than needed... god..

Had a friend at a previous job who was loud as hell, but it's because he was completely deaf in one ear, and partially deaf in the other.

As a loud talker I can say that I honestly do not understand why I talk louder than normal. I have really good hearing and I do not yell but for some reason my voice is just loud. I have to consciously try to talk quiet and if I don't people think I am yelling.

It is a rough life

It does come in handy sometimes like when I was the best man at my friends wedding I gave a speech to ~100 people with no mic and everyone heard me.

but, to his credit, his voice isn't too loud. so that is good. plus he takes FMLA all the time, which makes the work load higher on the rest of us, but it's worth it to be rid of him.

Ppl also tend to be louder when they are on conference calls with headsets on. It creates that deaf factor where they have no idea they are being louder. But if they do it to you in person, if you talk even more quietly than normal they sometimes calm down to meet your volume. sometimes. I also do this on the phone if someone is hyper and loud.

I'll take a loud talker over a close-talking-smoker anyday.

oh man. conference calls are the devil. and speakerphones, don't get me fucking started on speakerphones. I used to work across the cube from a guy who constantly used a speakerphone in a vain attempt to make sure everyone knew how important he was and how many important calls he took and basically how much of a huge fucking douchebag he was. I mean, he would use speakerphone all the time, I don't know if he ever took a regular call. and he wouldn't be multi-tasking or doing something else that would require speakerphone. no, he'd be sitting back in his chair twiddling his thumbs. pick up the goddamn receiver or get a motherfucking headset you worthless piece of scum on the corporate pond.

I don't like bringing up Dane Cook references, but people at drive-thrus make me lol, especially when I can hear their order from 3 cars back with my stereo still on.

Yeah it's worse that if the person's voice is annoying or loud sounding, then they talk loud. It's not needed but they do it.

I think for some, it maybe a compensating factor, if they talk louder it compensates for something else missing in their life or thinking it gets the point across more easily.

This same issue comes into play when people talk on their cellphones as well...

Usually if I'm alone in public places, I always have my iPod plugged in... which brings something else up though... people who have their mp3 players up as loud as it can go in a very quiet place, and the music their listening to is ridiculously annoying.

This happens a lot to me when I go to fast-food restaurant. Holy shit! I mean I can usually stand people who talk really loud, because sometimes they entertain me (I love public fights, I love pointless public bickering).


EDIT: Also, my mother. When she calls me on the phone, I kid you not, I have to place the phone literally a foot away from my ear >_>'

My mom's best friend's husband just has this huge bellowing voice... He doesn't mean to talk loud, he just does... He also gets really excited about things which I think makes his voice that much louder. Loud talkers don't bother me much because I am a nosy person and I like listening to what is going on around me.
