How to make Credit Card Companies stfu

Ok here is my situation. I got a MasterCard Credit card for the past 3 years and all went fine.

But starting the last 2 months they call me about 1 time per week for new promotions.

Each time i tell them to add me to the list of "do not call" and they keep calling me back.

Also for i think 1 year we now have a governmental list in Quebec, that if you have your name there no one exept some governmental companies can call you, for promotions and all.

When i call the government about it they told me Credit card companies shouldn't call me back if i ask to not be call for gay promotions.

Last week thought they broke the limit, they called me i ask not to be called back and hang up and the same agent called me back, saying that he wasn't done. So i lost patience and called the police for harrasment (yeah right ...).

And Police told me they can't do anything about it.

So am i fuck (and stuck getting called back) or what ...

edit : forgot to mention i filled up some complains on their website too

In America, companies and individuals can be fined $11,000 per occurrence if violating the DnC.

In Canada, do what we did, waste the telemarketers time. They will stop calling.

I used to hit on the telemarketer in the creepiest way possible. They stopped calling fairly quickly.

I'm not sure how the Do Not Call program works in Canada, but in the US if you have a prior business relationship, such as you having one of their cards, they can call you with promotions even if you're on the DNC list. I'm not sure if there is anything you can do short of canceling the card to get them to stop. Just do what I do and don't pick up the phone when ever one of those calls comes in, thank god for caller ID.

Give this page a read over: National Do Not Call List - Information for Consumers

On an unrelated note, I used to get calls saying that I need to call some number in Ontario / Quebec. It's a message that always ends up on my voicemail. I googled it, and basically, I have to pay some fictional fine. Most of the people actually paid it off, cause it's cheaper to shut them up that way, rather than hiring a lawyer and stuff.

    I used to get calls from them ~3 times a day, but now, I'm getting none. Couldn't be happier by doing nothing ^^;

Best thing to keep telemarketer type people from calling back often is to let them do their little speech, then give them a grade like a teacher would. (ex) "Wow, not bad. You must have been doing sells for a long time. But, what you should do is....blah blah blah" Their job is too make you listen and to keep talking so that they control the conversation. Basically, you need to take their only power away by controlling the conversation. Keep them on the phone as long as you possibly can. You know you're not going to go through with it. But they don't. They make money off getting people to sign up for whatever new deal they are offering. So, the longer you talk to them about how they need to work on their pitch, or how about your cat just did the cutest thing ever...god you love cats (30 minute rant time about why you like cats) Trust me. They wont keep calling.

Also, don't be rude the Telemarketer. Or your phone number will be passed around like it was the office slut. Plus, most call centers use a computer to place all the calls, and most of your personal information is right in front of them. Security usually isn't so tight that they couldn't copy and address down.

If I was to sexually harass a telemarketer with vulgar language, could I get sued, ect? Like I would be really crude and talking about fingers stretching body parts and bodily fluids, ect.

Though it is a pain in the ass to do so, when they call:

    1. Start a notebook calls log: List date, time, phone number and company the call is from and what about.

    2. Answer and ask the employee's name, preferably toll free number for you to call regarding complaints and the company complaint mailing address. When they ask why, explain you wish to file a complaint for their lack of compliance with your previous do not call requests or say you wish to have them comply with your Do Not Call requests. Do not give them information because they update their databases and flag you for potential new shit to annoy you about.

    3. Then ask to speak to the manager, ask for manager's name whether or not you get to speak to one.

    4. If you do get manager, explain all of the Do Not Call lists that you have attempted to be placed on. Repeat part 2. above with the manager.

    5. Ask the manager if they maintain an updated Do Not Call List. If they have one, ask the manager what it takes to be removed permanently from their list and note what they say.
Insist that they put you on that list. If there is a notation system on their database, ask to have notes put there on the dates that you personally requested to not be called by them.

    6. If they do not have a Do Not Call list, ask about what it takes to remove yourself from their calling lists. If they are required by law to maintain an updated list, then ask why they do not have one since it is required by law and ask for specific dates for when they plan to comply.

    7. Record the info about the call, in your notebook. If you get called by the same company again, ask for that same manager, or one above that person, go over your log and ask why you were lied to (mislead). Refer to the previous log entries and repeat the names, dates, info you collected from the previous conversations. Ask the person to find the older notes on their database that should have been left at your request.

    8. If you wish to mail the information to the company or the agency who handles consumer complaints for your region, be sure to keep track of all of the time you spent attempting to clear yourself from the list. Keep track of postal as well as long distance call charges also.

    9. Be persistent, polite and clear and do not back down. Require managers to be accountable for the shit they say on the phone by referencing them by name, date etc. when you call again. They will try to get you off of the phone so that their marketers can get back to work *annoying the fuck out of people. As long as you ask clear questions, reference names and dates of previous communications, maintain your calm and do not use abusive language (see * above), you can get your point across better.

Get Google Voice. Change your number in your profile to the Google Voice number. Mark their numbers as spam and it will never ring to your phone.

I've worked for several call centers and the only thing that you need to know is , we don't give a shit. That's all. Be it for customer service or for surveys or other stuff , the policy is usually to keep calling and calling and calling and calling and calling. The customer doesn't matter. Only money does and there's always a way to convince you , always. That's how the company usually view customers. That's how it was in all the call centers I've worked for anyway. I've never been to a call center where there was a do not call list. That's not saying much because I did a lot more technical service than surveys and sales but still , it's always the same philosophy : It's always about how quickly you can end the call , how much money you make per call, how much services you offered them etc. Even when I was doing technical service the main goal of each call was to sell as much shit as possible. Solving the problem was a distant goal on the list. And also I've never worked at a call center where there was a way to input a complaint about something. There's always an e-mail to contact an executive comitee( which always got shit done but no one wanted to contact them ... "I WANNA TALK TO A REAL PERSON, NOT A STUPID COMPUTER" ) but that's pretty much all. If it can help you I also live in Quebec. Oh yeah , whoever you're talking you hates you to no end so there's no real need to try to find a way to piss him off he's already pissed.

Begin reading entries from the dictionary, starting at the beginning. Each time one hangs up, save your place, and begin from the same spot when you get another call from them. Do it while they're in the middle of their pitch, too.

Dump that shit, and when they ask you why, tell them the incessant calling regarding promotions prompted you to switch banks.

Won't change a thing within the company, but they'll stop getting your 19%.

Change your answering machine to some annoying rap song and let them listen though it a few times before they can leave a message. They'll stop. Worked for my bill collectors will prolly work for your credit company.

I really don't understand how 'hitting on them creepily' or 'tell them annoying stories' would get them to stop.

    I agree, it's funny.

But as far as I know, the callers are logged into their computer and marked as "active" when they put their headphones on. THEY DO NOT CALL YOU. The master computer will pick a random number based on its algorithm and route the call to an available agent.

The person doesn't know if they're calling "that annoying guy who hits on me" or Chuck Norris.

As soon as they hang up with you, the computer picks another number for them to talk to.

Maybe this has changed since I last investigated. Although it will be funny to be a jerk to them if they keep calling (by all means, record it so we can hear it) but I'm fairly certain then will just keep calling as long as your number is in that computer's database.
