    Shield Skill Up 262 +

Looking to finish out my shield skill and i have hit a brick wall, have been fighting Tough Om'Aern's and have started to get a .1 or .2 if im lucky every 1/3 tough Om'Aerns. Where else should I try ive tried almost every mob listed through the Vanadiel Bestiary and they have yielded very low to no results. I am not in a sky / sea / hnm ls to get the skill ups from tanking the bigger mobs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the puks at Den can con DC or EM. If you pull the lower lvl'd ones and zone, they can respawn at a higher level. When I capped my shield, I used the a few Ts + an EM from there. It'll take some time, but it's definetly one of the best places to finish~

Where's the best way to enter the zone for those puks? Don't want to be arsed with a paintbrush.

just north of the OP by the NIN AF fight ??? thing

edit: also maybe it was just me, but those Puks hit like trucks when I capped out, you'll want to fight past them at the zone into the Temple so that you can bail if needed, I would just grab and let one whack at me til I was out of MP, when I had engaged I kept getting parries that took away block chances.

Yes, they hit like truck. At least the T ones do.

I capped my sword skill, unlocked atonement, got 300 WS point for savage blade, while bringing shield skill from around 210 to 276 there, a few hours a day for about 4 days. We had martial master during that time so I am sure that helped a bit.

If you go Pld/dnc you can fight them pretty much forever and stay at full MP. You need a Joy or Justice Sword though, otherwise you will probably have to rest in between.

Yea just north of the OP, easy to get to. I know this won't apply to many people (and may seem obvious to most!), but for those that have the support~

RDM /w Phal II, BRD use Paeons, defense food/defender. You can sit there and tank them all fairly easy. Have the RDM or BRD toss out some Cure III's and you'll cap off fast. It'll save you a ton of time if you can get some help. I triboxed it without any difficulty~

When using sentinel, they don't even damage you =o

Use Sentinel Shield, size 3 with +1% haste. Buckler will get you killed because they'll damage you faster than you can heal. I used Sentinel shield and /DNC and -phys dmg/agi/shield skill gear i pull 2 Pucks and bring them to the zone and let them wail on me as i melee one and just spam waltzes and Drain Samba. Joyeuse is extremely helpful to let you stay alive, eat sushi for the acc so you can wear vit/agi/shield gear elsewhere. This allows you to fight 2 simultaneously which means more skillups. Macro in haste gear for Reprisal is important as well(which is why i used sentinel shield. Save sentinel for when you're low on TP and MP so you can quickly recover. With a decent haste build for Reprisal you can lower it's recast significantly, 1% haste from Sent.Shield took off 2 seconds from the recast, and Reprisal raises shield block% noticable. This indirectly helps you stay alive against 2 or more mandies from the added TP you get for waltzes due to shield mastery.

Every so often I do a 'gauntlet of doom' where i rest to full, grab like 5-6 mandies and bring them to zone, pop Sentinel and reprisal and have them raep me. Right as Sentinel wears off I pop Invincible, and cure to full. When invinc wears I spam Waltzes(you'll have 300% TP by then) and it'll take a while for you to hit 0 with all the shield procs, when you're about at 300 HP and out of MP and low on TP you simply zone them. I went from 250-276 in about 3 or 4 days of doing that for roughly 2-3 hours at a time. Also got some parry ups as well. If you want you could just fight 1 mandy and then skillup a club in your mainhand. I find skilling up something slow like shield to be boring but if you're skilling up shield, club and parry, it seems more fun.

Was pretty easy to cap my shield at the Boyahda Tree. Just aggro one of those puks/crabs and just stand in front of the mob by the zone to the cloister. Then you can just use your other character to periodically heal. Pretty simple and doesn't really take long. Don't need anything fancy except a buckler and something to watch/kill the time as you go along.

What I did was go to Troll and Mamool Besieges. With the Trolls, there's a MNK NM named Dartorgor the Austere who practically attacks with Hundred Fists normally, so popping a bunch of potions and just getting pummeled by him for 30 seconds usually gets a good chunk of levels.

With Mamools, there's Strifelord Bakool Ja who is a DRG that also attacks very fast and is assisted by Wyverns. If these particular NMs haven't appeared yet or are dead, you can also just stand right by the gates and wait for waves of monsters to spawn and get beat up by them. It turns out that when you get aggroed by a Besieged monster, it will deaggro if it's beaten you up for a while, so as long as you have potions to keep you alive, you don't necessarily have to die.

Yea, our Ein works /w a point system =p. I lotted shortly after my PLD hit 75, so I was missing skill/gear. My PLD is fairly well equipped and played though, so I don't feel so bad lotting it early!

Andddd I don't have any DAT mods, I just use plastic surgeon and pretend I'm a cute taru

I capped pretty easily on King Apkallu. I also used a Templar's Mace so I didn't kill them fast at all, and never hate an issue building up Apkallu hate. It was very easy to solo one of the Tough ones as PLD/RDM. If you just go through the bird camp, you come out near plenty of them with no wamouras/dahaks nearby. Be warned if you dualbox a healer though, they have funky hate. I brought a RDM once and tried grabbing a couple Apkallus, and they would on a semi-regular basis swap to the RDM just for casting refresh and phalanx on me. Pucks are probably best if you can get enough support, but like already mentions, some are going to be DC and useless for capping your skill.

    Update

Im @ 267 atm though the skill ups are still coming slowly, i dont have /rdm but have been using /rdm mostly vit gear and my hauteclaire. My gf's whm has been healing me and has good gear / merits so im not having much issues with 2 of them on me.
