XI on Hughesnet

Anyone on here play XI and use Hughesnet? I just recently moved to a place where Hughesnet was my only option and am thinking about playing XI again...and eventually XIV. My concern isn't the speed really, it's the FAP bullshit that plagues Hughesnet. I don't know how much playing XI on ps2 would take up of my "daily limit". Thanks in advance.

FFXI uses about 10mb of bandwidth an hour for the most part, so if you're worried about bandwidth consumption, it isn't much of an issue for it.

Don't. Bandwidth wise FFXI has no problem with hughesnet, but latency it does. You will be better off using dialup on ffxi. It takes anywhere from 2-6 seconds for things to react and the internet costs too much for what it offers. I did it for over a year, it blows.

I already have it, it's the only option. I live inside the Elephant Sanctuary grounds and there isn't a cable line or phone line within a mile and a half. To run a cable line here, besides the hassles of coordinating it around the elephants so they're not in the area, it would cost 4 grand according to Charter. (only cable internet around here)

I am not happy about using Hughesnet, but like I said, it's my only option to have internet. The first time I ran over my FAP from browsing the youtube thread, I knew I was going to be very unhappy.

Has everyone had the same problem with the latency? I had some friends in my old LS who used Hughesnet and didn't seem to have a problem with that, but they were hardly ever online, so I didn't think the FAP would affect them.

I used the same thing during FFXI with wildblue. I used the Top package so I never had a problem with the bandwidth except while downloading movies. Latency wasn't much of an issue except for magic usage but you get used to it and adapt casting. Would not expect to play well of XIV. You should be able to see a graph of your bandwidth usage on when you login to your email page.

It's awful enough that it's going to turn you off of FFXI entirely.

Part of the reason I could only level BST when I was back at home during college, the lag is pretty damn bad, around 4-5 seconds.

A friend of mine on limited Aussi internet could play when he'd get limited, but then he couldnt multi task any, no vent or msn.

The FAP limiting only effects the bandwith, not as much the latency. For me it capped around 2kb/s down speed, which will on its own impede you doing much besides straight FFXI (and you will probably notice a slowdown at that)
