Can't hear any sound

Just cut back on my laptop from earlier today and it doesn't have sound anymore. Checked to see if I had it muted but it isn't and whenever I try to click on the icon at the bottom right for sound nothing comes up. Any ideas on what's going on?

Edit: I went under the control panel and tried to move the volume up from there but the bar is stuck on low.

Refers to an error made by a user (as in the person who is 18 inches from the screen). It is an expression used by techies in tech support to disguise what they're really saying. For example, "Remember that issue I was working on yesterday morning? Turns out it was a simple code 18."

I get this message when I try to open Volume Control:
There is no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.

reboot, your sound card is disabled for some reason... possibly dead?

Might try reinstalling your sound card drivers.
