Whitegate "broken"? for some of us after update

After all the messed up of Nexus Cape and crashes with spellcast/recast there is one problem is happening for some ppl now, i though it was just me but looks like im not the only one who is having similar issues in Whitegate, things like, NPCs speaking in a Alien language or crashing on every NPC you talk, even getting stucked on the black screen going out MH after change job.

    Here some screenshots

    http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9...1109183311.jpg

After this, i installed the latest's emiko UI mod, to see if it was a UI issue but nothing changed

This is currently the only NPC who doesnt crash, but acts weird, he gives me coins tho

    http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/323...1111165907.png

This is what i got going out Mog House, pretty weird im getting part of the last screenshot's emote as text in the dialog box. At this point you get stucked here and need to log on another PC to unstuck

    http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/6...1111170103.png

Basically all NPC you talk makes you crash, but AH, here is another guy getting something similar

Some ppl quotes got from the 348732462+ threads about crashes after update here on BG

So, I kept crashing on Windower without loading any plug-ins at all and just tried loading FFXI normally without Windower, and encountered some messed up stuff with the text. I can't get anything done with the NPC's speaking this alien language to me. Tried getting Runic Portal pass since I have the click confirms memorized, but nothing was going through.

I posted in the windower site about this problem too.

I fixed this by running check files. It is one of the options in the very first POL menu, before you even log in. I got d/ced halfway through my download, and got a very strange message about a file. I thought nothing of it at the time, thinking it was just me d/cing, but alas something got corrupted.
Already did file repair, problem stills

Some ppl looks to got it fixed with a simle File Check but some dont, just liked to note this, because maybe someone of you already know what happened. In my case, im reinstaling everything.

You probably did File Check on POL, not on FFXI. You have to pick from a menu. File Check on FFXI should fix it.

Some have fixed the problem by going into playonline/ffxi/rom/0/ and deleting 51.dat, and then running file check again.

Has anyone without windower had the problem at all?

I've yet to hear of any console users complaining, or anyone that's posted screenshots that didn't show signs of windower being used.

The problem was only in Toau for me, then I tried it without windower and it still had the problem. I did file check and i let it fix the rom0 file and now its fine

My problem was only in whitegate, and only on my windows 7 laptop. My husband's vista PC did not have this problem. It took me completely overwriting my own ROM/0 folder with a copy from my husband's machine and doing a filecheck again (which downloaded 1 file, most likely 51.dat like everyone else) to get it to work again.

Happens on my brother's Windows 7 install, but not our XP/Vista installs..so it COULD be the way Windows 7 writes stuff and it got corrupted in the whole update process.

I had the same issue, neglected to deal with it when I first noticed which was a mistake. Khim popped so I tried to head there, only to find I still crashed when talking to most all npcs (most notably Moogle, sanction dood, and the guy to buy a portal permit).

Anyway, ran FFXI file check, took about 30 mins, logged in problem solved.

Killed Khim, no sword, no seveneyes

I had the same issue when I had used FFXI Style v1.14 (widescreen). Did a file check and reapplied FFX Style v1.15 (widescreen) and it works fine now.

I had a problem similiar to this except my moogle just said "x x" and when i talk to other npcs such as the coin guy or armor storage they crashed me to a error thing. What I did to fix it was go into playonline>ffxi>ROM4>0>123.dat and I got a friend to send me the update version of that .dat. It was 0 mg when I looked at it, which is what was the cause, try fixing that.

Yea, since peeps are reporting different files, sounds like SE's file server just screwed the pooch with updating people's client under the strain. Wouldn't be the first time.

I tried in both official and windower modes, and had the issue. This is not a windower issue. Also, to some speculating about it being windows 7, I am on vista, so its not that either.

I ran the file check from the very beginning of POL. It asked me what to file check - I had a choice between POL and FFXI. Chose FFXI, and a file was replaced. I had some odd error as I mentioned in other threads where the download d/ced, and rather than just giving me the standard POL d/c garbage it fed me some error with a file name. I thought absolutely nothing of it at the time, figured it was the download rush and restarting the patch would get the file.

Tried all of these suggestions, deleting the random .DATs you guys threw out there.. And it borked my FFXI even more lol. After FFXI File-Checking, I can't even log in to mess around/chat in town anymore:

Get this after char log-in screen and loading to enter FFXI.

I guess this gives me a reason to reformat my PC, but I dread that really =(

Question for those running Windows 7 with this problem:

Are you running POL from C:\Program Files\ (32-bit) or C:\Program Files(x86)\ (64bit)? Windows 7 put more write protection for the Program Files folders, which may cause errors. My install is in D:\Games\ and I haven't had any problems.

Had some problem. File check fixed it. My issue was I changed jobs and got the "Set HP here?" box upon zoning out of MH which caused me to crash. And since that pops up everytime until you answer, I crashed everytime I tried to log in. I called an ever helpful GM who refused to cancel that chat box or warp me from WG so I could log in.
