Rough way to go out.
Hand of God v. 2? I bet Irish would like to kill him now.
Meeze, yes.
as an irish person living in ireland it's totally heartbreaking. ireland had no business challenging france for their place in the world cup, but the better team on the night went out and unfairly so
ireland had a dissallowed try against austrialia in the rugby on sunday (leading to a 20-20 draw) thanks to instant reply, can be sure no irish man spoke out against the use of video refereeing, it's fair and it's needed.
Somewhat related?

More like,
I'm clueless when it comes to a lot of sports, especially soccer.
What's the run-down on what is going on in the video?
what am i watching
As the cross bounces, Henry touches the ball with his left hand, then passes to the goal scorer.
I'm sure everyone knows touching the ball with your hand is against the rules in soccer.
Guy hits the ball with his hand, obviously a no-no in soccer. The hand of God video was a famous older clip of this happening in a crucial situation.

Plus, guy seems (I'm almost certain from what I've seen on TV) to be offside when the ball is played.
The bald black guy got a handball on purpose to better control the kick/pass he was about to do and didn't get caught i think. It's kinda hard to notice exactly since he has some skill at pretending he moved the hand out the way but i think that's what happened. That being said he's not good enough for anyone watching to see that and not think something was wrong so the ref's should have at least been more suspicious. An entire opposing time simultaneously shoving their hands up in happiness and him "accidentally" getting a handball is a big red flag too since i sincerely doubt they would cheer about being scored on.
Ah ok, I see it @ 23 seconds in pretty clear.
Wtf is offside anyway? Most of my basic knowledge of the rules came from playing with friends without paying attention to volumes of misc rules when we had the basic idea already of what to do and noone ever bothered to explain the offside rule to me plus I always feel silly asking when I should have known it for years.
When the ball is passed, there must be a defender (not the goalie) between you and the end line of the field.
This explains the rule rather nicely.

"Blue" player on the left side of the line is offside in this situation (assuming that he is actively involved in the play, i.e. the ball is sent to him or through his active area).
aye basically you must not be behind the last defender when the ball is played (goalkeeper is ignored from this rule)
You have to have at least one defender besides the goalkeeper between you and the goal when you receive a forward pass in soccer (I think the same rule exists in hockey). The handballing player didn't, and was offsides. The refs were really wearing their blinders in this game.
So basically you cant pass the ball off to some other guy when you should be taking the shot yourself with the goal practically wide open?
