Laptop Windows Update Problem

I had Vista 64bit on my HP laptop and sometime time ago it quit windows updating saying it might be my firewall or something. Well earlier tonight I upgraded to Windows 7 and i'm still getting the same problem which leads me to believe it's a hardware issue because my desktop computer running XP has never had a problem with updates. I honestly do not know, though. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I really can't imagine why hardware would or could in any way affect Windows Update. I'd normally say try dial-a-fix, but I don't think that is defined as being safe/compatible with Windows 7. If you want to post a screenshot or quote exactly what it says as an error, that might get you further for support. Being able to upgrade from Vista to 7 shows that at least some aspects of Update are working as I think I recall it needing to do a variety of things pre, mid and post upgrade to complete.
