FX in talks with Joss Whedon

    http://tv.ign.com/articles/106/1061643p1.html
Today at the TCA (Television Critics Association) Press Tour, eyebrows were raised by FX's President, John Landgraf, when he was asked a question about Whedon and whether the successful cable channel might be interested in working with him in the near future. His answer was actually a bit more interesting than expected. Said Landgraf, "Actually, his representatives called and scheduled a lunch. I think I'm supposed to have lunch with Joss in the next two or three weeks."

Landgraf added, "I have enormous respect for [Whedon]," and brought up one of FX's most successful series creator's, The Shield's Shawn Ryan, noting, "If you look at Shawn Ryan, he learned at the feet of Joss Whedon - the Joss Whedon school. And [Lost executive producer] Carlton Cuse by the way, as well." Ryan worked for Whedon on Angel and Cuse on Nash Bridges, before creating The Shield.

So while there's nothing but the promise of a meeting, there is at least the window open for Whedon and FX to collaborate. Said Landgraf, "I don't really know Joss, but I'm really looking forward to meeting him. I love his stuff."
So yeah, no guarantee this will go anywhere, but the places this might go could be awesome.

FX is owned by Fox isn't it? Why didn't they just transfer Dollhouse over to FX instead of canceling it?

they murdered Dollhouse, I mean how do you put a show on Friday nights and expect it to succeed? Friday nights slots are the place networks send shows they want to fail, look at Sara Connor's Chronicles. They use friday nights to kill shows they think are too expensive to produce. Put freaking god damn American Idol in Friday nights, that piece of shit would be able to survive that night whereas 90% of other shows can't.

lol, the CW moved Smallville to fridays to try to kill it, but some shows can't be killed. I dare say if Smallville didn't have how many 7-8 seasons on thursday night slot it wouldn't be able to survive a friday night slot.

Proof that Friday Night = Death of a show 90% of the time.

Firefly premiered Sept 20th 2002 what night of the week???? Friday.

Fox never gave it a chance. If your target demographic is out at the movies/bars/dinner/parties why air a show on that night?

I go to a couple TV blogs and they all say Friday slots are used to kill shows an executive has a bug up their ass about.

Maybe Joss should look at CBS or ABC, not really sure what network you can trust now-a-days. Invasion was interesting got decent ratings but was not renewed due to production cost. Threshold was ok too. A lot of shows just slip through the cracks, ideally SyFy should be the home of some of these shows but they're too cheap to produce anything of quality these days.

Because only old people watch numb3rs. That show is terrible. Got booted off the 2-4 slot on TNT to 3am pretty damn quick.

BSG did fine on friday nights on SciFi, as for Invasion, its hardly the fault of ABC, it had a prime spot airing after Lost, it slipped through the cracks because like 90% of the other shows that came out that year or the one after it was a shoddy attempt to copy Lost's formula.

edit: And while yes overall Friday nights are where shows go to die, I think Fox puts these shows on then because they mistakenly assume their entire audience lives in their moms basement and would be home on a Friday night anyways.

Network sci-fi fails on friday, because it's up against the actual Sci-Fi channel's friday lineup.

Basically, if you want to succeed with a "genre" show (sci-fi or fantasy), do NOT be so stupid as to put it head to head against something like Eureka, Warehouse 13, Stargate SG1/Atl/Uni, Sanctuary, or BSG/Caprica.
This is one of the reason's Leno failed. 10PM Monday - Castle, Wednesday - CSI:NY, Thursday - Mentalist, Friday - Numb3rs.

Sath just can't appreciate David Krumholtz, Judd Hirsch, and Peter MacNicol.

too expensive to maintain a poorly written romance with overemphasized CGI on Friday ad revenue.

    from wiki
Some shows scheduled on Friday nights have been successful as an exception to the rule.
    [edit] ABC
    1969-74 The Brady Bunch
    1970–74 The Partridge Family
    1996–2003
pre-WB move Sabrina, the Teenage Witch
    [edit] CBS

The phenomenon is now seen in regard to other original programming on CBS as well. Joan of Arcadia, which had a successful freshman year in the 2003–2004 season—and was even renewed unusually early, in January 2004, for the following fall season—was cancelled after its second year.

CBS has also found success in its Friday night lineup with:[8][9]
    1978–82 The Incredible Hulk
    1978–91 Dallas
    1979–85 The Dukes of Hazzard
    1981–90 Falcon Crest
    1992–96 Picket Fences
    1996–2001 Nash Bridges
2003—2008 The Price Is Right $1,000,000 Spectacular
    2005— Numb3rs
    2005— Ghost Whisperer
    2008— Flashpoint
    2009— Medium
    [edit] NBC
    1972–77 Sanford and Son
    1984–89 Miami Vice
    1999–2002 Providence
1999–2003 Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
(moved to Tuesday night in Season 5)
    2003–08 Las Vegas
(moved to Friday night in the middle of Season 3)
    [edit] The WB/The CW
    2001–07 Reba
2006–08 WWE Friday Night SmackDown Moved to MyNetwork TV
2009-Present Smallville Ratings exceptional for The CW Friday nights

I don't get why Whedon deals with Fox at all anymore after what they did to Firefly.

I was thinking the only show that I hear about on fridays being successful is Ghost Whisper, I always figured because this stars in it..
