Stream Recording?

Anyone know of a good free streaming media recorder? I want to download my professor's video lectures which are streamed through windows media player (.asx extension). My google skills have failed me as all I've found was outdated guides and gimped demo trials of expensive programs.

I think you can just use VLC. Go to File->Streaming->Select file, select the .asx file on your computer, then click stream. Check "File", specify a file path, set the encapsulation profile to mp4 or wmv or whatever format you prefer, and then click save.

I was able to do the first part (unquoted) but this quoted part I am lost as I see nothing that uses any of these terms. =x I am using 1.0.3.

Sorry about that, I was using .99. Click on "Media", go to "Convert / Save", add the file, and then click "Convert / Save", browse to a destination file, check "Display the output" (if you want to watch while it saves), change the profile to whatever format you like, and click start. (Depending on the output format you choose, add that extension in the destination file--it defaults to .ps.)
