    Game recommendations while @ work

So basically I need some computer games to play on my laptop at work.

Very often at work I have anywhere from 15-45min of downtime, all the way up to 6 hours of downtime if not all 8hours lol. I never know when I'm going to have the downtime or how long it's going to last.

I have Mass Effect 2, Battlefield, and WoW to play at work currently. I'm running on a brand new G73 laptop so its got a lot of power to run games at really high settings. The problem with games like WoW is that if I'm doing something, and have to actually work, then it's hard to just drop where I'm at - so I'm looking for games I can do that with, whether it's RPG/Shooter/etc.

I saw splinter cell on steam, and that looked decent. Honestly up until now I've been playing a lot of pokemon and some FF8 at work, but I need more and don't think I want to go through the hoops of having to run an emulator. Games that I can just turn on and get right into are a huge plus, especially ones that I can pause or shut off at any moment without much worry or anything. WoW fails in this department as you can see, although it makes up for it in otherways. Battlefield and FPS games can work out well too as well as ME2. Another good shooter would be great, but with so many titles out there now I don't want to blow 60$ on 5 games and only find out that I like one of them, so I came to you guys.

Football Manager/Worldwide Soccer Manager if you are even remotely interested in real football.

You could also consider turn based games like Civilization. You can stop whenever you want...I'd say its probably the best game for work environment.

Let me guess, you work in a call center? Also, Torchlight.

Well, call centers can range from support, inbound calls, etc. I used to be an IT/supervisor at one. We only accepted inbound calls so there would be days of downtime ranging up to 6 hours or so. Thought you were in that same predicament lol.

You could try actually working? Had to do it before someone else did.

Although you don't want to go through the loops, nabbing an emulator will open up a number of possibilities depending on the emulator you get. A nice perk is that save states would allow you to quickly stop and exit back to work if need be.

RPG wise the only thought that comes to mind is Oblivion. For FPS, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike, or Killing Floor (if you're looking for something with nice multiplayer as well).

Mermaid Metroid? That being - Aquaria. I second FM2010 as well.

I could try actually working? Are you suggesting I start fires at work so that there is a fire to put out? haha thanks for suggestions though. Not a fan of sim games anymore. I do have TF2 CS:S DOD:S L4D2 HL2:DM and The Hidden on my steam currently just not installed. I've never played those without friends at like a LAN though.

Anyone have input on the new Splinter Cell? And Shattered Horizon? Its 15$ today lol.

Going to second football manager, only game I've played where I can actually kill time faster than playing a MMO. Crazy strategy involved.

Also PSPs are really good for quick starting and stopping of play because you can just go into suspend mode immediately whenever needed... plus you can get a ps1 emulator on there and/or download ps1/psp/snes/etc games

From what I've been reading, it's just as buggy as Double Agent's PC release was. Also, don't bother with the PC release unless you have a 100% stable internet connection with a fast upstream as the game mandates that you have net access, and all your saves are stored serverside-only as a means of DRM.
(not to mention it costing more than the average PC game to begin with)

Damn thats weird. Yeah once in a while internet cuts out at work, so I'll stay away from that.

I have a psp btw but since I got this new laptop that can handle games at pretty high settings I was just looking for something new.

    Bought civ3 for 1.25$ today, if I like it I'll grab 4 for 10$.

I grind old school FFs, like IV and VI when I have the time.

Only FF's I'd want to play would be 9 and 10. I've replayed a lot of the others recently.

Go with Fallout 3 and Oblivion with all the expansions. At the very least it will end up being two massive timesinks.
