space pretty much sucks irl
don't forget all the other places too
If you were moving that fast, you would see some nasty relativist distortion, and it wouldnt look like this at all.
it wouldn't look like anything because you'd be in deep-freeze (cryogenics) so that you'd be alive by the time you arrived anywhere you'd want to go
Pfft, and some people still think we're alone in the universe...
Thanks for sharing!
Posted this a while back.
Incidentally if you were hopping from point to point faster than the human eye can register frames (60~70+ hops per second) in a hypothetical situation where hyperspace jumps were possible, you COULD observe a journey like this with no distortion, as at each jump you could be stationary wrt the CMBR.
Everything would red shifted (since you're moving away)
The side of your vision would be distorted by the near light speed (you're not moving away from everything at the same speed)
And lastly, human vision doesnt look at thing "frame by frame". We often make the analogy, but that's incorrect.
Pfft. You make it sound like we would actually accept things as they are. Let your imagination work for once - if the universe doesn't provide the experience you desire, you merely need to create one. Like the vroom boxes (for lack of a better description) they're putting in electric sports cars.
No matter how many times I'm reminded of how insignificantly small our little area of the universe is, it still amazes me.

makes me think of that when i think space travel ;/
You completely misread my post and jumped into correcting what you thought I said.
If you were able to hop through a higher dimension in order to follow spacelike paths (i.e. ftl) you wouldn't be required to be moving necessarily with any significant 4-Vector.
That is roughly what hyperspace devices in various sci fi and other such stories are describing, traveling from point a to point b without crossing the space between them.
If you disappeared from here without seeing redshift, and popped in near alpha centauri without a significant velocity, you wouldn't see redshift because you'd be at rest with regards to the CMBR roughly.
If you repeated this and popped in near Wolf 359, Sirius, Betelgeuse, etc, spending less than 1/60th of a second in 3+1 space after each hop, your eyes could not distinguish anything but a smooth appearance of motion with respect to the background stars.
Perhaps you've never been riding in the backseat of a car going down a highway and blinked repeatedly while watching the trees by the side of the road, each time you blink it looks like you're at rest.
Obviously the eye doesn't perceive things frame by frame, but it is only capable of distinguishing the time between events on a scale of roughly 60~ fps, which is why TV's work... I could do the same thing you did and assume you were oblivious to that fact, and lecture you on it uselessly, but I've got a hot pocket to eat.
Universe is huuuuuuuuuuuuuge. :D
