Anyone here fixed a non-working PS3?

I looked at a couple hits on google just to get an idea about, but could research more later, just wondering if anyone here has first-hand experience. My brother's PS3 (old fatty, BC, I think it's the bigger of the 2 original sizes) apparently no longer reads blu-rays or PS3 games, but does fine with regular DVDs from what he's told me. Haven't tested it any myself yet though.

I actually just fixed two of mine that were both out of warranty. My 60 gig was not reading blu ray discs like you are talking about so I just took it apart and cleaned the lens with a q-tip and some alcohol. I put it back together and it is working great.

My 40 gig on the other hand was not reading anything. I tried cleaning the lens to no avail and after reading online I took a chance assuming the problem was the lens and ordered a replacement. I installed the new lens and it works fine.
