    Disk Defrag

    So i chose to do a disk defrag last night and its been going on for 22 hours now...

    Not that vista can help tell me what progress has been done but I'm not really sure what this means

    Any input/help is appreciated

    Did you start defrag with almost no empty drive space left? That can cause it to thrash.

    I did my defrag with 312GB of space left, lots of space

    Back when I defraged with Windows 98, there was some process that always wrote to the HDD, which would throw off the defragging program to start from scratch.

    well defrag just ended, 22hours later after initial start

    a bit much if you ask me imo

    Ahhhh, nostalgic is setting in my mind ... good times, I always made sure I killed every possible task and then let it run, but sometimes even moving the mouse restarts it, so I made absolutely sure no one touches my PC during this critical ... mission!

    If you have restore points those are hell to defrag because of the security settings on them in the newer Windows. Third Party defrag programs have trouble accessing them too. That's what probably ate all the time.

    Use Defraggler. From the same people who made CCleaner.
