Handbrake is the best free option.

^ both of these. Use DVDFab to decrypt+rip the DVD to your hard drive, then handbrake to encode to .m4v.

I already downloaded handbrake because it was open source, and I didn't want to deal with any bullshit "donate or trial" from DVDFab. Out of the two, only DVDFab by itself can do everything I'm trying to do?

AFAIK, free version of DVDfab is good for ripping only. You've got to pay for the one that does everything(think there is a fully functional 30 day trial period).

For a completely free method you can use go with the Rockstaru's method, use a free ripper to rip and Handbrake to encode.

Or you could just watch it on your tv/dvd player instead of wasting hours converting to a shitty apple format.

A few years ago some "Videodera" program used to do this, it probably sucks now.

^ You are probably stupid if it takes you hours to convert a dvd into a m4v. There is nothing wrong with regular itunes format, and you have to go through the hassle of ripping DVD's because of the copy protection systems implemented in them.

Even if you want to watch it on your computer without disc, you'll have to rip the DVD.

Yes Mein Führer, I will only ever watch DVDs on my TV or DVD player. Under no circumstances will I ever watch on anything other than that. Thank you for posting.

Ripping dvd's? que? If you're going to do something illegal you might as well do it the right way!

Also, hours of converting is a figure of speech, and if you're converting more than one thing at a time, then yes, it will probably take at least an hour.

also @ op, I gave a program that at least used to work, my post wasn't useless
