Converting images into a video

Are there any free programs or good programs that can do this? I have a sequence of images I wanna convert into an AVI, but I have no idea of any light programs that can do just that. A few suggestions would be good, doesn't have to be legal or anything.

Tried that already, seems really sloppy and there's a whole mess of timing issues. But I haven't looked into using it properly for that purpose...

Edit: Also, WMVs are gay.
