My friends are in general normal people. They aren't hardcore gamers for the most part. So they tend to look down on my extensive FFXI play time and avid love of the game. For the most part, they are probably correct, but they can be dorky about a lot of things too. For example, one of the people that rags on me the most about playing FFXI is an insane Star Wars fan, and plays FPS almost as much as I play FFXI. He also works on cars, but is so obsessive about it that he has 4-5 broken down MR2's in his front yard at any one time. The point is that we all have our foibles, and none is really better than the other.
Until, that is, I found out that almost all of my friends watch the Jersey Shore obsessively. They actually discuss the episodes in public, they know all of the characters and the clothes they wear. They talk about the places they go on the show, and the social interaction of the characters.
Now, normally, I don't believe I am better than my friends, but I absolutely refuse to watch this shit fest of stupidity. In my eyes, this has lowered them all so far as to render them even questionable as "friends" (not really, but man, LOL). Their defense always ends up been some hipster explanation that they are watching it "ironically" or something. But I know that isn't true for all of them, I know at least a couple of them watch it because they actually enjoy it.
Can someone explain to me what anyone could find in the least bit interesting about Jersey Shore? Can someone explain to me why the people on the show should not just be immediately incinerated? I just don't get it.
