LM-17 (as if there weren't enough)

First of all- I looked for FFXI standard, but didn't find it. I know this probably isn't in the right place, and I know I'm lacing a decomposed horse skeleton with C-4 explosives, but I've been away from the game for quite some time and wasn't sure where else to ask...

I quit playing about a year ago now and have not really kept up with the going-ons... I know there's been a few waves of massive bannings and whatnot (Massive LM-17's going on, etc), but it never really applied to me so I didn't pay much attention. All this FF14 talk got me re-interested, and I went to reactivate yesterday just to find that I too had been hit with LM17.. so...

Rather than sort through the countless different LM-17 threads (none of which may apply to me...) what's the general consensus with dealing with this? I never botted, never cheated, never handed my account out... hell, I havent even played in a long ass time, and my last log-out was completely voluntary, so I'm not sure when this took effect. Does SE even look into LM-17's? Were there any strings of LM-17's that were accidental / from an issue thats resolvable? (For instance, when I quit I was using prepaid debit cards - this was before they required the Verified by Visa cards- did this LM-17 people when it started?)

I know I'm theoretically asking people to dig through stuff for me, but I don't expect anyone to really do that.. just wondering if anyone who's been in a similar situation has some quick advice before I just abandon hope.

Even if we could identify a cause, you'll still have to call them to fix it; you're not really going to be able to avoid it.

really first step is to call them and see what they say. If they give you issues then come here to see if other people found ways to get those issues resolved. No way to help without even remotely knowing why it happened.

This the best advice you are going to get in this thread or anywhere else.

For every post I see on BG complaining about SE's customer service, or getting accidentally banned or whatever, I have to wonder how many people actually called SE and tried to resolve the issue. Don't go to their online support, don't send an e-mail. Call them, then ask to speak to a supervisor if things are not resolved.

People love to bitch, but very few people will actually stand up for themselves, and most people will just bitch while they are bent over taking it.

Your acct was seemingly hacked some time back. A number of us saw you farming bugards 24x7 in the Tavnazia region for about a week with away on. Then you disappeared - I imagine that was when you were banned.

After talking to SE today they said it was banned for 'irregular activity' - since I dont have records of my most recent credit card they are having me notarize something and send it in to recover my account. The guy said once this goes through (they are basically treating it as a compromised account) they can restore the account (since I'll be proving I am who I am)

... After that, not sure. If it was truly hacked, would I even have any gear / items / cash / etc? They may not even restore it- the guy can't see why i was banned (other than 'irregular activity' but said if they go through the trouble of notarizing they'll generally return the account.

So strange, with the number of countries I've played in, the number of different credit cards I've had on my accounts (in several different names too) and the canceling/reactivating of my account over the last 6 years, you'd think that I'd have been banned at least once. I don't get how I've never been tagged for "suspicious activity" on my account when it seems such a common occurance.

I've posed the question to the customer service reps a few times.. don't they find it a bit ridiculous how things change? Back in the day you didn't need jack all to get your account back. Then you needed the first and last credit card, full numbers, NO EXCEPTIONS! Then they were lax, then it got to be a bitch again. The guy I talked to today was pretty damn awesome and even helped me with a few of the questions I had forgotten (I put in a bogus age when I signed up for example, due to not being old enough at the time [lol?]) I didnt know when I was 14 that I should keep my prepaid debit cards years after they were used and expired in the event that their policy eventually might require I have them.

When I got banned, I was told it was suppose to be permanent, but because I knew the person who was investigating my account, they changed a few things around and they just slapped me with a 3-day ban, they also removed all the warning marks on my account :D
