    Monitor Resolution

So, I saw that the new FFXIV HD was 1920x1080, however my monitor is only listing 1680x1050 with a dvi cable. The video card is a gtx 285 (which supports the resolution I want). Does this mean the monitor simply does not support the resolution?

    what model?

What is the make and model of your monitor? 1680x1050 is a pretty standard native resolution for lower end LCD monitors.

Correct. Resolution is (almost always) a constraint of the display your computer is connected to, and not the graphics card. How big is your monitor? Typically the smallest (non-laptop) screen that will support 1920x1080 is at least 21.5".

Figured the cheapest solution to this is getting a DVI->HDMI adapter and hooking this pc to my 47" HDTV. Should do the trick when ff14 comes out. Saves me $250 for a new monitor since I already have 3.

My DVI to HDMI converter fucking blows, image goes away every few minutes and need to move the cable, probably going to buy a real DVI to HDMI cable.

Your monitors max resolution is 1680x1050, I had a 22" that was the same before I bought my 24"ers at 1920x1200. I wouldnt spend any money on an adapter unless you want to play on your TV. When the game comes out it will have 1680x1050 as one of its options so you'll be fine.

Since this problem have been solved, hijack time!

My monitor is 1920 x 1080. No later than yesterday I was running windows XP 32 bit and my wallpaper fitted my desktop just fine. Now that I formated and installed windows 7 64 bit, the wallpaper is too big and I can't find a fix on google =x. The windows 7 desktop management doesn't have the options XP has like centered, streched, stuff like that...

options are there, just tricky to find; can also try programs like ultramon for wallpaper stuff, esp if you want 2 different ones on 2 screens. http://i46.tinypic.com/t4xo1z.png

question of my own, I recently reinstalled 7. I didn't have this problem before on the previous installation, however I have noticed it some time ago. What happens is when FFXI loads, the whole screen goes darker. I tried changing the monitor's brightness/gamma settings, but it gets ignored/reverts once the game starts. My crt monitor is too dark for my taste, even with the monitor's own settings to max.

If you're using windower, try F11. If you're not, idk.

Also, I don't get those options.

The colors are wierd too. Her arms thing isn't supposed to be glowy or whatever the fuck.

    It's semi-NSFW

when I rightclick the desktop, at the bottom, clicking personalize brigns up the themes window, and then can click Desktop background. Alternatively, you can try typing it into the url box thing box at the top of an explorer window Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization

Then again, i'm using 7 ulitmate, but it should~ still have the wallpaper options...

also, yeah using windower and f11 makes it darker lol

THERE WE GO =D. lol thanks.

If you're using windower, you can always change it from the I think .init file (I think). I'd have to see the files in the folder to remember. It's been too long lol.

I know theres a gamma windower function, but it's annoying that it changes the entire desktop darker, mostly affecting when I watch videos. I'm just wondering if it's a drivers issue or some setting I can change. XP used to have color controls (RGB and brightness, gamma, contrast) with an option to set it to overlay across all applications, can't seem to find that same overlay option in 7 though :/
