    Mousepads

Are the more expensive ($25-40+) mousepads really worth it over cheap ones that you can buy at most electronics stores?

I'm using a $5 one now with a cloth top and rubberized bottom. It gets dirty, wet, and is annoying to keep clean. My mouse (G500) doesn't track very well on it, and when I really want precise lines it tends to skip often. The tracking problem is annoying and I'm starting to think that it may be the mouse pad causing it.

Should I spend the money on a 'premium' mouse pad? Will it improve mouse tracking noticeably? Are they easy to keep clean and are they long lasting?

Any recommendations for specific models would be great.

Well, do keep in mind too that there's no strict requirement to use a mousepad at all, especially with an optical mouse. Depending on what the surface of your desk is like, you may be fine without one. Perhaps worth a shot before spending money.

Doesn't really matter with a laser mouse, optical are a little more picky. Pads with soft tops suck ass; as long as it has a hard top and is big enough, there shouldn't be any difference in performance. I'm using a generic $20 pad from the Valve store.

Func pads are has a really nice surface for optical mouse and lasts very long. I've had mine for over 5 years and the surface has never worn off on me, which can be annoying when you're playing games and you feel some sort of friction while moving.

I don't think they're selling stuff online right now, but I'm sure you can find their mousepads on google.

I use the original one if that matters...was the only one they had back then

    Such ignorance above...

Get a good mousepad like Steelseries, and you'll see how much better it is to have a frictionless surface for your mouse.

That is, if you wanna spend $40-50 on a mousepad. lol

Just use your desk or go to Staples and buy one of those like $10 ones with the gel at the bottom for your wrist.

If you don't use a mousepad with an optical mouse you get a whole lotta smegma buildup on the bottom of the mouse..

Ah I've been waiting for this thread. Heed my advice young pursuer of a mousepad, for I shall take you to places you've never dreamed of.

You are using a g500, you have a laser mouse, that thing tracks on pretty much anything. However, we are greedy, and we want it to track as best as possible.

I'm going to toss out 2-3 options for you, since I have tried a lot of different pads and right now am extremely pleased with the one that cost me the most (figures).

Ratpadz Cheap, and godlike. This is the best solid pad you will find for the money, however, if you want to be a boss, you need to step it up. Steelseries does make some good mouse pads, and since they were mentioned, check them out. HOWEVER, please take a look at Razer, this is one thing they do very well. Razer pads are really good.

Now, if you are still reading, then you must want a good piece of equipment. Using a g500 means you will want something that responds well to laser. While laser works great on most surfaces regardless, one surface stands out the most. A white surface. Here, are the 2 best mouse pads for your G500, your Mamba, your Deathadder, Lachesis, I don't care.

Razer Destructor Obviously, select white. This is the one I use. Loved it with my mamba, love it with my G500.

Megasoma This is an expensive product, I've never used it, it's different material, but it's got great reviews. Go check out hard forum about this shit.

I nominate the white destructor btw. The Mamba glided on the Destructor like it was on air, was amazing. The G500 with full weights, not so much. I bought the Destructor for my mamba, but no longer have that. It's 100% the best pad for that mouse. Since G500 has different feet, check out steelseries and the other pads shown. I still believe nothing will track like white. BTW, there is more to getting a REAL mouse pad over not using one at all, it's not just about the surface or friction. As mentioned, take a look at hardforum, they just fucking track better and the mouse will work overall better. If you FPS at all, and aren't using at least a 20$ pad, you aren't as good as you could be. BTW think Ratpadz still has a 5$ off going on, just add to cart and it might be cheaper.

The Icemat was top tier back when the G5 was the best and outclassed every other mouse out there.

I believe the since were rebranded, bought out, or whatever and are now the Steelseries. I think the Steelseries 5L was comparable to the Icemat.

Also, yes, it's highly worth it. It's like Teflon on Teflon so smooth it's so worth it.

Same shit happens to me with sigs.

But for mousepads, I'm using a Razer ExactMat and it works very nicely. I only ever use the control side since the speed side is grainy and it can wear down pretty quickly. I have a friend that uses an ExactMat as well, and his Speed side of the pad is completely smooth in some areas. I'm not sure if the Steelseries suffers the same issue.

I don't know if it can be this since apparently you're using default, but usually that kind of problem is related to forum skin.

I'm not using default, it's the --R or whatever that allows wowhead linking.

Edit: happens on all skins for me.

Steelseries are my absolute favorite. I've been using them since early 2000 or so when they were under a different name, even then they were simple, cheap & effective.

Currently rocking this for my laptop though >:3
