HTC Evo vs iPhone 4G (new summer phone debate)

Overview: I have AT&T now under my dads family plan (current phone is a piece of shit Xenon).

I really enjoy the customization of android, but I like the well established based from Apple.

Situation: Stay on my dads family plan (renew 2 year contract for my line for 2 years) for the iphone or switch with my uncle (if they confirm this) to Sprint with their family plan and paying them the difference.

Now this may be a preference debate. But since a lot of people own one or the other, and seeing how I don't (so unpimp of me), I want to see the opinions for each phone. I'm leaning on Sprint, but I'm kind of hesitant because my uncle is also...hesitant to switch from T-Mobile to sprint.

Live in 4G area or Future 4G area, or like android/OS you can install whatever you want on => EVO

Live in a 3G only area or love apple's phone OS, and like having apple dictate what you install (or jailbreak the phone), pretty much along the same lines as psp firmware updates -> get the new iphone

Personally getting the Evo, but not until march when I can get a discount from sprint (I Live in a 4g area, and upgraded my phone to touch pro 2 a month or so before they announced the evo)

EVO 4G. Don't hesitate and don't look back. Android + Sense UI is absolutely amazing and a much better experience than I've ever had with an iPhone. Their new OS 4.0 needs to do something different if it wants to stay on top.

(not necessarily thread jacking, but..) I'm in the same boat but with verizon. I have a voyager, no data plan, contract ends in 2 months. Any new decent phone is going to require at least a 9.99 one after they changed their plans. I also need unlimited, or close to it texting out of network. (I text both at&t and verizon people a lot.)
I'm shopping around plan wise, its basically iphone, vs droid/incredible, vs Evo, and sprint is coming up ahead pricewise in a plan that lets me text unlimited + data unlimited. I wouldn't use more than 300 minutes per month, as all 3 carriers allow after 7-9ish pm unlimited calling.

Sprint: Unlimited texting, data, gps, email etc, 450 anytime minutes, after 7pm/weekends free: 69.99

    Verizon:450 talk and unlimited text, 59.99 + data plan 29.99 = 89.99

    at&t: 450minutes, 39.99 + data plan, 30.00, + messaging, 20.00 = 89.99

    Evo no questions!

Apple is the new "The Man"; Google needs a 2012 commercial of someone throwing a hammer through an ipad.

I'm more then likely going back to the Iphone this summer.

I like the droid and the direction they are going but It really isn't as polished as an Iphone.

Biggest pet peeves for me as far as android phones go is the Multimedia players. Sure you have more options to choose from but none of the options make up for the loss of Genius mixes. I underestimated how much I would miss that feature until I recently started playing with my Iphone again.

Another thing I dislike about android phones is the pain in the ass syncing. The Iphone is essentially king in this area with painless syncing through Itunes. Sure Android has Double twist but its Bulky and slow to sync and start up.

Just want to point out, that the sprint plan you listed....... also has unlimited calling to any mobile phone. So your 450 minutes would only be used up on landlines only. Its kinda nice

It looks like the Evo will launch around June 6th. $200 on contract. It's not official though.

Unjailbroken, I say HTC has the win.

But compared to Jailbroken iPhone, gotta give the iPhone the edge.

(Hell, can even run droid on iPhone now and dual boot. Best of both worlds, lol)

I'd also recommend taking a look at the HTC Incredible. I know when my contract is up next month, I'm going to look at switching to that phone. A few of my buddies have it already and I have to say, I'm impressed.

As a side note, when people are saying iPhone 4G they are referring to the 4th generation of the iPhone. The phone itself is not on a '4G' network like the EVO 4G is.

My uncle is getting the incredible. I don't want to join Verizon again.

So whats the process for doing this?

$150 for contract cancellation (afaik) with AT&T

Is it, call AT&T, cancel contract, have uncle contact sprint when he's moving his plan over, and include me on the line?

Well I've been on AT&T for about 5 years now. It's just that last year my gf and I merged onto a family plan instead of having two bills. So until June it's a $130 cancellation fee. nothing after that for me in any case.

I'm going to wait it out. The iPhone 4g details should be released around the end of June (at least it has been done then for the past few years). It will honestly have to really impress me for me to not switch. The incredible is great and so is the open platform it's on. Not having to pay $1.00 for a ringtone, being able to tether, and an actually decent camera are pretty big things. Not to mention that the android has emulators in their app store >.> SNES games ftw.

I'm not exactly sure how emulators will work on the incredible... no hard keypad. Was part of the questions I had about the Evo as well. we'll see.

apparently they work just like they did for jail-broken iphones (and how most games on the iphone work) Touch controller.

I would shoot myself in the face before I used another phone with a keyboard.

Really? because I'm heavily leaning towards caving for a droid because I would feel helpless without one. Not really sure why though.
