    XIV Computer for ~$800

As the title suggests, is it possible? My friend is in desperate need of an upgrade and was planning to go the PS3 route, but since it got delayed is somewhat scrambling for a computer. Laptop or PC would work and he prefers prebuilt since he's afraid he would fuck it up. I've browsed around a bit through some prebuilds, but I have no idea what's good, what isn't and what brands are worth a fuck anymore. He's not looking for high settings by any means just medium to low setting route. I thought there was another topic on "build me a cheap XIV computer" already, but I didn't see it. If I'm just being a jackass and missed it, I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance.

For 800$ you can get a decent PC that will run FFXIV properly. I checked newegg and I'd go for:

    i5-760 - 200$
    ASUS MoBo (e.g. P7P55D series) - 110$
    4GB DDR3-1333 - 90$
    Radeon HD5850 - 300$
    ~500W PSU (e.g. Cooler Master RS-500) - 50$
    CPU Cooler (e.g. Scythe Mugen Rev. 2) - 40$

    Price: ~790$ - missing case+monitor+drives

in the end you'll have to choose the parts yourself anyways, but for the money you definately get a decent PC

Could aim for something like this:

    Spoiler: show

Note: Missing case, DVD drive and CPU cooler

A HD 5770 is the lowest GPU you would want to use, that and a weaker CPU will work at mid/low. A 5850 is an alternative to a 460. Also worth noting you probably won't be able to OC a prebuilt and I can't seem to find a PC with even a HD 5770 for under $1k unless you go to one of those custom prebuild sites.

Dunno about the brand itself but the budget/specs are pretty much spot-on.

Thanks for that. I was looking at a similar PC last night on newegg which was this:

I'm not really sure what I'm looking at here. The 9800GT scores higher than the ATI does it not? I'm not sure at all about the processors though.

I don't want to start a new thread but I'm in the same boat..Budget can go a little higher but I absolutely have to do this on a payment plan. Been looking through dell but I feel like i'm getting bent over and raped on this rig.

If you dont mind a refurb pc, check out the dell outlet you can save almost 700 [last i looked] on that pc, also I dont see why you would need 16gig ram, I have 8gig in my 8000 and no problems at all. Check around for accessories like the speaks and compare the price you could be getting ripped off with dells prices.

I got a dell xps studio 8000 in december for about 900 with no problems and it came with a 1 year warranty [from outlet], got a 8100 in June/july from outlet for 800 and it was slightly better, no issues with that one either. The outlet can have some very good deals, just remember to extend your warranty if you can afford it before the first year is up.

9800GT is quite a bit weaker than a 5770, and at stock a 760 is a bit more powerful than that CPU (judging from passmark scores). Plus you can OC a 760 further from stock than a 965. The one sruon linked is better, for not that much more.

Do they offer payment plans for refurbished pcs? I'm looking at some of there "Gaming Computers" and they all seem just as expensive as the one I built

$1750 and only getting a 5770? You could live with just 4GB and still run fine, but for a gaming computer, don't skimp on the most important part (GPU).

Change the GPU to a 5870, add the same speakers. $1,759.99 before tax and shipping. + however much that router is. If you don't need/want the monitor you could just sell it.

If your on a budget, why get the 16gb memory? Get 4gb, and upgrade at a later date when you can afford it.

    @Seraphise

There's no real reason to have more than 8gb of RAM unless you do heavy video editing and/or run virtual desktops on your box. Go with AMD for cpu if you're on a budget (grab an AM3 compatible mobo as well). I'm not sure how people on this forum look on pirating but you can very easily do that with Windows 7 if you search around.

edit: Oh, prebuilt etc rabble rabble. Yeah I dunno, does Dell even offer AMD chips?

I understand the apprehension at not wanting to build or have someone build for you, but man I just can promote a prebuilt after doing them for the last 4/5 years for myself and friends. It's quite easy, and at a fraction of the cost. I built my current PC back in, 07, for 1200, and am probably going to replicate most of it in a build for my roommate, and I imagine the build will probably run about 600 bucks. At the price you get my benchmark scores of 2900 at high settings (default graphics) or 4200 at low res (step up on the graphic settings). Which is fine for me for a couple years til I bump up to the iX boards and what not. Just my 2c.
