    New PSU / Graphics Card

    Here's what I have.

The GTS240 needs to be upgraded
That means the PSU as well.
I'd like to spend under 500 to upgrade both but 750 is totally possible.

The only issue I've had come up is fitting everything into the tower.

I'm not shooting for top of the line but any substantial upgrade would nice.

    Any idea for card/PSU combos?

you might have to reposition your harddrive to fit any decent card into there. I'd definitely try to look for a modular PSU since your case is somewhat compact

Yeah that really is going to be a tight fit with any of the new graphics cards

Damn, just by browsing some dimensions this is going to be pretty rough. If anyone has any relevant knowledge to this particular case it would be very helpful. I really need to upgrade this card as it's actually weaker then I thought initially.

You need to measure the case a modern card might not even fit.

    http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...000_inside.jpg

measure there if its not at least 10 1/2 to 11 inch you will prolly need to buy a larger case as well.

As for a gpu i just upgraded to a 5870 myself the other day and it runs the game at:

    Window size: 1900/1080
    Multisampling: 4xMSAA
    Buffer size: Resolution
    Shadow detail: Highest
    Ambient Oclustion: on
    Depth of field: on
    Texture Quality: High
    Texture filtering: Highest

Runs pretty good like that but dropping it down to 2xMSAA makes it run very smooth. This is the card I got:

XFX HD-587X-ZNFC Radeon HD 5870 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

As for PSU's I personaly perfer to buy Corsair so just grab something there thats above say 600-650watt's. I'm currently using a HX1000 in my main rig and a HX750 in my old rig. Had them for years and have never once had an issue with either of them. and yea pick 1 thats modular.

If you end up needing a new case the Antec Six Hundred are good should be more then enough room with plenty of airflow.

total: $500-$575 depending on weather you need the case or not
    xfx 5870 is $370
Corsair HX750 is $130 after Mail in rebait
Antec Six Hundred is $75 if you need it

It's close. Really close. I looked up the specs for the card you recommended and its 11x6. I *think* it should fit. Once I get my next paycheck I'll probably throw down and get em. Worst case scenario I have to buy a case later.

might want to take a look at http://en.community.dell.com/support.../19300995.aspx and especially page 2 where they talk about replacement psu's. So far i am happy with my xps studio 8000 but if i ever had to upgrade i would go with the power supply recommended there, unless it is not available at that time.

Should also measure between the psu and optical drive cause the psu I recomended is a little longer then your current 1 by maybe 1-2 inches. Major thing that worries me in that case is the HD placement assuming the card will fit you will proly need to move the HD.

GTX 460 - $200ish, or you could buy the GTX 295 in the Buy/Sell/Trade section for $220, that's a great deal.
    Corsair 650W Modular PSU - $100ish.
Put some the rest of the $500 limit to getting a new case, I'd recommend the Antec DF-85. There is a case thread a few posts down, can give that a look over.

Your card is at #46 on this list. Refer to below when looking at your choices.

this is a 240 with 1 gig ram not 512, not sure what your chart there is saying for this version of the card.

Gonna take a stab it's right there since the same cards move up one spot with 1GB
