Black Screen after SquareEnix Logo

After I login to my account and hit the play button, the game launches at the desired resolution. The square enix logo appears at which point the white screen with the start button usually appears.

But my client isn't getting to that stage. After the Square Enix logo fades out, the screen remains black with the hand pointer still visible and moving (game didn't hang). But the start screen never comes.

Any ideas?

(Edit: It was working earlier today until they pushed this new patch out.)

same thing here except i can't ever see the logo.. but i can hear it come up.. the little ding then goes to the start page but remains black screened. worked great before this last patch.

GTX 260 running default windows drivers.. going to upgrade them after this last format and upgrade to 64bit windows 7

I'm also going to reinstall FFXIV while I download the drivers.. and just start new...

I get the same issue but only when I try and run my native resolution in full screen :< All other resolutions are fine, including native res in windowed mode

Issue Resolved.

Wait about 15-20 seconds before pressing the "Play" button; they're using a HTML/Javascript loader; and if you don't let all data load on the play page it doesn't pass the correct parameters to the executable when launcing it; causing a stall.

Patch seems to have sorted the issue, but if it comes back I'll make sure to try the 15-20 second wait

Doesn't work for me, I still get it. Only happens in windowed mode though, can play fullscreen fine...

Does it for me in fullscreen too. It works after restarting the game 50 times.

This one started for me after last maintenance (no idea if relevant), tried 5 times, no go, switched to fullscreen got straight it, switched back to windowed mode, no go. trying to wait 1 min now.

Edit: waiting before hitting play didn't help.

I'm having a similar problem, except that the game doesn't even load, I'm stuck at the white screen with the rainbow-colored circle (which doesn't spin in my case)...and no matter how long I wait...nothing happens. Tried fullscreen/windowed mode, nada.

I'm not sure why they haven't patched this yet; it literally took me 24 tries to get onto the game yesterday (black screen after the Square Enix logo animation). Today it only took me 5 tries, after the patch. Nice fix.

Solution: stay logged in.

In Full Screen Mode I get the black screen after the character creation during the first in game cut scene you see.

Full sound and subtitles but no video.

During this black screen, subtitles for the CS show and the "Skip" command appears by pushing ESC before the CS is over.

Otherwise when the CS ends, the black screen goes away and the zone appears.

At first I thought it was supposed to be black because I could still see the subtitles and Skip button, then after trying it in Windowed mode, I realized it was indeed not supposed to be like that during the CS.

Once the CS is over, the instanced zone of the first in game area opens but the movement is delayed in a way similar to WG lag. Even if I could play like that, I would be weary of it going black during any CS to come.

I was told it might be some confusion with the Overlay codes.

So I get this only in full screen.
Since I do not know how to reload the introduction (first CS in the game for brand new character) cut-scene, I keep remaking from saved character data/deleting my character for testing and so far nothing.

For now I am playing in windowed mode until this is patched. Saw others posting the same issue.
Going to report it to tech/support.

I'm able to run it in Fullscreen without issue but I have the same problem with windowed mode as everyone else. Tried updating my drivers and running driver sweeper in between with no luck. Never had a problem running the beta in windowed mode.

Edit: I'm using an ATI 4870HD. Anyone else with this issue NOT using ATI?

Having the same problem, black screen in windowed mode, but it works fine in full screen. Using an HD 5770.

I am also having this issue, it started yesterday maybe after the last patch. One thing i notice is I can tell it is going to do it if I have no sound for the checking version screen. If there is no sound there i always get a black screen after I hit play. I wish they would fix this because it is really annoying. ATI5850 here.

Same as you, Window 7 x64 & 5770.
My drivers and everything on my computer is up to date. FFXI, SC2, and many other programs run windowed. It doesn't make since why the actual logo shows up and not the menu, and it doesn't make sense at all why it would work after multiple (5+) tries.

I don't do that much, just close the window and try to log back in. Sometimes it takes a while, but usually no more than 5 attempts.
