No audio from netbook?

I was at home an hour ago and was listening to music on my netbook. I packed up and came back to my room at my school and now I'm getting no sound.

I've tried using the netbook's speakers to play with no success.
I've tried plugging headphones in the jack and no sound.
I've tried plugging in portable speakers and again no sound.

When I plug in something into the headphone jack I usually get a menu asking me what I plugged in, I get no such menu when I do so.

Sometimes the Audio Service might be turned off for some reason.

Likewise, it's possible you can try to reinstall your sound apps/drivers.

And, did you try turning it off and on again? Didn't seem like you rebooted, just closed the lid and it went standby.
