Feline Specialist Costs

So our roommate's cat's health is on a steady decline. Vet visit revealed it's a central nervous system problem, possibly feline leukemia. We had blood work done on the little guy, and the results will be in tomorrow. Basically, we're fucked if it's leukemia or feline AIDS, and we're fucked it the tests are negative since a feline specialist is required. (Spinal taps, various other tests which the vet referred to as "ungodly expensive".)

Basically my roommate isn't coping well with this and wants to know a ballpark price on what the costs are for even seeing a feline specialist, maybe how much various tests cost, etc. I already know the worst is to come either way, but would like to give her an answer at least. Thanks in advance.

No offense taken. My wife and I are already facing that this is what is most likely going to happen. My roommate however, wants to know what price range she's looking at. I have been digging through Google, but have found nothing yet. She's having a hard time letting go basically, and I just want a number I can give her so she can go from there. It sucks for us though because he's a really affectionate cat, and so young, and we have become attached. ;/

In all seriousness, it'll probably be best to put it down. We had a similar situation with our cat that was 17 years old at the time, towards the end she could barely walk and while putting her down was one of the saddest moments in my life, it was for the best.

Just put it down, unfortunately. I've had several cats over the past few years who have been put down because of feline leukemia, it sucks. I'm just another person with no real input towards what you're asking, but the most humane and sensible thing is to put it down and give the cat some peace, like Eggroll said, it's for the best, especially for the cat. My condolences for you and your roommate.

Insurance don't cover the cost of that? Or is that something insurance don't care about and recommend putting it down rather than doing what you use the insurance for in order to save some expenses?

Most people don't have pet insurance, usually it's cheaper just to pay out of pocket for expenses.
