    DVR harddrive

So it looks my DVR has finally died. I had shows on there that I wanted to keep. Now my question is can I take the harddrive out and plug it into my computer as a slave drive and rip the files off that way? Since I can't turn the thing out without getting a overheating message I don't have much choice.

I work for a cable company, and all our DVRs and hard drives are matched pairs, if you have to replace the box, chances are you'll have to replace your hard drive, so if you want what's on it, you'll have to find someway to get what's on it off. I know you can use DVD recorders to transfer shows, although I don't know if you need the box.
