I had a summer job at a school for autistic students a while back, replacing a teacher's aid who had been physically attacked by a student who picked up a desk and slammed it down on the aid's foot, breaking it in several places and hospitalizing the aid. I know duct tape on a handicapped kid probably seems like a victorian torture method to most, and the circumstances may have been horrible and totally unjustified... but I saw some shit in that school that was pretty intense, even got attacked by a naked 14 year old girl with a shard of glass at one point. Apparently she had gotten her first period and went berserk cause she didn't know what was happening, she stripped naked and shattered a window and started threatening the class with the glass shard... there was blood everywhere on her... they sent me in to take care of it because I was the biggest guy there and it was mostly female teachers, and probably because I was new and too stupid to say no.
You could bet your ass that if they had duct tape laying around in that school, I would have taped that psycho bitch the fuck up. I had nightmares of her standing in that classroom alone all bloody and shrieking for years, and actually kind of forgot about it until I played "Left 4 Dead" and saw that witch character and was just like, holy shit... that's her.
Enough reminiscing... shit I don't even know why I felt compelled to write this. I guess hearing the story made me think about it.
hahahahahaha
Should have just duct taped his nose and mouth.
it's caused by vaccinations right?
That's some fucked up shit, BUT for this teachers case:
Teachers are (or are supposed to be) trained on how to "tackle a student." basically in how to get the kid to the ground with their arms behind their back without injury. Now granted, it is one thing to be trained, another to try to actually do it when shit goes down, but if your first reaction is ducktape then I might say you weren't trained well enough (general "you", not you specifically).
I'd be interested to here why she did what she did, but ya. I hope if the school hasn't been giving defensive training that they will now.
Silence is golden but duct tape is silver? idk lol but that is some crazy shit there Tagus.
teacher watched too much red green
I've never met an autistic kid, but i hear that they create a powerful urge to punch them.
I was referring to real autism.
Yep, you're totally right. We were trained on what they called, "take-downs". Basically you get behind the person and bear hug them, fall to the ground with them, and don't let them up until they've calmed down. I did it once, but it's more a punishment for the kids to be afraid of than an actual deterrent. Duct tape is a pretty severe solution, but I think people don't really understand what can go on in these schools. When you're alone with a group of kids that are crazy, or mentally challenged to the point where they can't speak, or prone to violence... well, like you said. I'd like to know the reasoning behind it, because maybe it was totally unjustified. You do have a LARGE amount of freedom to act innapropriately at those places.
As an aside story that people generally find funny, I saw an amazing thing my first week at the school. The main teacher and I had our kids sharing a public playground with a class of normal kids from a neighboring school. Everything was going fine, until all of a sudden one of our kids just drops his pants and takes a shit right in the middle of the playground! He started touching the crap with his hands, and the normal kids all started screaming and running around like crazy, and the main teacher was like, "STOP THAT!"... so the kid scooped sand on his crap like a cat and started running around naked. I pretty much just stood there in shock, thinking, damn... I'm not in Kansas anymore.
Screaming and running? It sounds like those normal kids came from a school of pussies.
Still pussies.
