I don't understand why people throw away money and torture themselves buying laptops for gaming. In any case, while I'm not that familiar with laptop components, I don't think that thing will run FFXIV very well as neither the CPU nor the GPU seem very good. You'll probably get by if you play with very low settings but that's about it.
everywhere i look says that the 5740 is low lvl gpu even for laptops, you are hosed :/
That is the part I am wondering the laptop is pretty good but the GPU annoys me a bit
I know it's a 1GB but yeah
This one is much better no?

Still need a better video card, I don't think that one would cut it. My friend has a gaming laptop with dual 9800GT Ms in SLI, and he can barely run the game acceptably, and just one of those cards is stronger than the one in the laptop you're looking at there. You'd probably have to set the resolution to the bare minimum, turn all settings down all the way and even then it may not run that great. :/
Looking at the Future Shop list, the only one that might run the game okay is $1800. It's exorbitant how much a laptop with a decent video card costs. You might be better off with a site that builds custom laptops, though I don't know who to suggest in Canada. ;;

asus g73jh, about 1200 bucks. Best bang for my buck I've found.
At the time I bought it, it had the best single Graphics card with DDR5 VRAM installed (this was in August so who knows now). Runs it quite decently, I average about 20 fps in town and between 20-60 fps outside, with all high settings DoF on, AA off.
Not to mention quad core i5s don't exist on laptops so you pretty much have to get something with an i7
IT HAS THE ONE GEE BEES IT MUST BE GOOD.
seriously video memory is NOT what you need to be looking at.
Doesn'T exit on Best Buy Canada
Damn well, I was gonna suggest you try an instore pickup over the border but a quick check made me realize you live far from the border (if your profile location is correct). Could always google up other online stores that do canadian shipping and whatnot. Afraid I'm not too familiar with canadian retailers to suggest any.
Found this Laptop

I already own one, but i'm npot always home so
well, wait until black friday and pick up something then...
Any suggestions on that? <,< I'm looking into building a PC for 1200ish (with monitor, up to 1500ish), that would destroy the game, but the best so far I can find is this:
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo
Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136218

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115211
Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-909-_-Product
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145286
OS: http://www.microsoft.com/student/en/...s/default.aspx
DVD/CD drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136144
As far as I can tell this is a pretty good setup for FFXIV for roughly 1200ish, but it doesn't seem like it qualifies for "destroying" that laptop, just beating it to a minor bloody pulp. :D
Ok last thing is taht The Laptop if I get it will be my main PC aka will be on almost 20h/24h per day
So I guess for that that I should keep my PC since FFXIV is always on bazaaring
