    General Digital Camera Question

I was recently given a digital camera as a gift (sorry, I don't know the model off-hand and I'm posting from work). I've found that after snapping a picture, there is a delay before the camera is ready to take another.

Is this more a function of the camera's hard-/software, or a function of the SD card that it writes to?

The current SD card is small, 2GB, and I'm looking to buy a much larger one to accomodate this new camera. Given that there are different types of SD cards that seem to indicate differences in speed, I'm curious if there would be an improvement to how fast my camera would be ready to take another picture.

Usually cameras have a buffer in which pictures save to while it writes. When that buffer is full, you'll have that delay. If you have a small buffer, you'll fill it fast. It could also happen if you're using flash, it needs time to cool down. You can try shooting smaller jpgs, or if you're shooting raw, switch to jpg. It could be the card, but unless you're shooting 18mp raws at 10fps, it's doubtful.
