Let me begin by wishing a happy new year to all players and fans of FINAL FANTASY XIV!

The last few weeks of 2010 were tumultuous times for us all, what with the announcement of the development team restructuring and multiple version updates. Still, I hope you are all enjoying your winter vacations and holidays, and had truly memorable Christmas and New Year’s Eves and Days.

As part of the new direction promised, we here on the development and management teams have adopted four new keywords for FINAL FANTASY XIV: fun, live, reboot, and rebuild. Forgive our translators if these buzzwords seem a bit cryptic or cliché, but I am using these English words as-is in the Japanese, and insisted they use the same words for a global resonance.

To get things rolling right away, I am asking for your cooperation with our FINAL FANTASY XIV Player’s Poll the First—a brief questionnaire being issued to give you the players another means by which to have your voices heard.

Well, I would be lying if I said I was writing only to wish you the best in the coming twelve moons. Truth be told, the realm is all aflutter just now— the air thick with anticipation and excitement. In fact, an ancient verse of prophecy was delivered to my person by a messenger from Eorzea not moments ago. But I’ve never been much of one for poems... Perhaps some of you will have more luck decoding it than I have.

hmm, they should let you choose at least a limited few options for what you want dev team to work on. it'd help them see the player base needs on a better scale. either way, filled it out!


also, gotta love that the new producer is actually considering an AH, whereas tanaka said it'd never be implemented. kinda shows just how willing he is to toss out the old program.

I voted for AH, wish you could pick multiple options because theres alot that needs work, but honestly, scrap market wards and give in to the AH already, thats a start!

Voted for More story-based quests/mini-quests. Honestly if I had to choose between that and an AH I can wait a while on an AH.

Picked content, if they made current searches repeatedly refinable on various categories (i.e. "Show me all hats" -> "Restrict to Lv30 - Lv50" -> "Restrict to ARM favored" -> "Restrict to Mag. Crafts. > 0" -> "Sort by Mag. Craft."), I wouldn't care for AH at all anymore.

Biggest thing for me now is not having any meaningful goals to aim for. Needs more gear, better gear (both more stats and different stats: haste, PDT/MDT, DA/TA, crit, etc etc), along with reasonable methods of obtaining them without too many people (i.e. solo to 4-5 man). FFXI Abyssea NMs and Trials of the Magians type stuff comes to mind, and would fit well with the guildleve system too. Needs more shit to aim for besides grinding levels, in any case.

Am really glad they put a survey up. Also found it interesting they asked which games interest us atm / we want to play in the future. I personally want to say here but I must say Blade and Soul and TERA do have some interesting design choices.

The last question had me a bit nervous but I did choose yes and I am sure the game will change for the better.

Am really looking forward to all the wonderful things to come. :D

Also picked NPC Quests, would take real content over an AH any day. Am currently managing with the wards anyway.

Had to pick the quests. An AH isn't any use to me if I'm not playing the game. And I'm not playing without content.

I did a write-in which says challenging content for rank 10-30 and beyond. I figure all the story quests are too easy and getting more easy quests isn't exactly what I want... but do people actually read those write-in votes?

I'm glad they gave us this survey. It might be short but its a start. On what I wanted to see implemented 1st you could of placed your answer in the field below. I chose Auction House AND more Story Missions/Quests. I was a bit shocked at the last question but I chose yes. Also once you hit submit the 1st time it directs you to a summary of everything you chose before making the final submit which is nice.

Voted for large scale PvE content as opposed to an AH. I'd rather have more stuff to do with my time online than a better way to spend money. The Market Ward when fleshed out with features may still work and I haven't had much problems finding stuff I need with the new search feature.

I really hope he makes a response to the survey in a week or so and goes from there.

Edit: Also chose "more developer/operator posts on Lodestone" instead of an official forums. If we can get Yoshida or some of the new dev team making "blue posts" like Blizzard does... amg.

I have faith that Yoshida will not disappoint.

I said no to that, because I figured it meant something like "DO YOU WANT ME TO WASTE TIME ADDING SHIT LIKE AUTO-ATTACK?" Basically making a new game instead of fixing it. Bad idea for several reasons.

I picked the content (quests) option, too. As Kaelan? said, the market wards would work fine if you could refine searches.

I liked how they made a point to say "first", as in, what do you want fixed first. I like his idea of an MMO as a theme park: build a strong base and fill it up with all sorts of content to the point that perhaps no one enjoys all the content, but everyone enjoys some of it. Things like Abyssea/Magian Trials/Dynamis/sky/sea/kings/Assault/Limbus/whatever aren't going to come all at once (they didn't FFXI): just add this large-scale, roller coaster like attractions every 6 months or so and have them vary for different folks and different play styles. They already have leves for 'daily quests', add town quests and shit and, along with UI and server issues, viola, you have yourself a base to start building attractions around.

I picked more in-game content and more non-leve quests. The reason the lack of an AH is such a problem is because there is nothing to do in-game but craft and shop, bringing the shitty sales system to the forefront. If there are things to do, then the ward system becomes a secondary problem, because it is manageable and there is YG which is extremely helpful. Nothing to do in-game is suffocating the game.
