Washington (State) Bans Alcoholic Energy Drinks

(CNN) -- The Washington state Liquor Control Board on Wednesday banned the sale of alcoholic energy drinks after a group of college students got sick from consuming a drink nicknamed "blackout in a can."

The ban, which takes effect November 18, follows the October hospitalization of nine underage Central Washington University students who said they got sick after drinking "Four Loko," a caffeinated malt liquor. Some of the students also mixed the canned drinks with other alcohol, including vodka, police reported.

I'm sure people are obviously going to be pissed about this, but I'm wondering if other states will follow.

I support this, not for the banning of "alcohol + caffine" but for the fact that Four Loko fucking tastes like nuclear ass.

A group of us stopped by a liquor store on the way to a casino over the weekend and most of us bought a can to try it out. None of us could finish one. Granted, we are all late twenty-somethings, a far cry from the "hide it from your parents" teens or frat party-esque collegiate folks, but regardless, the stuff tasted horrible. Four Loko really stretched the description of "premium malt beverage" with that one.

If you die of alcohol poisoning, its because you were too dumb to know when to stop drinking, so yeah, I would consider it Darwinism. I think knowing your limits is pretty inherent to survival.

This was once true, but one Four Loko is something like 4.8 drinks. You get a small, 100~ pound, college girl who drinks 2-3 of these in an hour and doesn't think about it can very quickly overdose.

I read something before about those being seriously dangerous for basically being a super-upper and a downer all in one. My brother and his buddies (early 30's) used to down those and Sparx for a few years, but they all recently stopped after reading so much bad press about them.
