Before I read any further, they say Obama has become 'center-right' in his politics - I would dare say he has been center-right since becoming President. Moderate conservatism is the missionary position in DC, no?

On a tangental point, I'm interested to see what happens around 2030, when our generation is in its 40s and the Baby Boomers have left or are leaving. We're generally more liberal and socially aware than our parents. Will we be the same as the generation before us, or will politics adapt to our ideology? The cynical side of me says the former, but I'm honestly not sure. Anyway, back to reading this.

I like that it points out that the health care reform was barely a victory for Obama. The Republicans got the best of both worlds, in that they removed enough of the bill for it to be palatable, but left just enough to be able to complain about. Now it's a weapon: the law and its potential repeal get to be drawn out for the next two years and be THE talking point of 2012 (since any repeal would be vetoed, anyway). The Republicans are shrewd and basically left the Dems with no options other than pray for re-election.

I strongly dislike the "What Have You Done For Me Lately?" vibe that I get from everyone whenever I speak with them about politics. Admittedly I'm more of a Republican opposer than Obama supporter at the moment, but his victories are always diminished in the media and by Congress. It's like he's Jimmy Carter or something, who was certainly a failed President.

Basically, I feel like Obama is more of an architect than a leader. He's laying the groundwork for his successors to build upon and grow into what he promised during the campaign and in the earlier years of his Presidency. In that way, he's more of a Kennedy, although in his case, the succession of LBJ was obviously more immediate and forced.
