My power went out last night at 11 PM, no biggie. We just had a huge storm, and the wiring in my apartment is old as shit. Didn't really think it to be anything. All I did was report my power being out and I went to bed. Woke up with no power today, bleh. Turns out I also had no hot water, double bleh. I finally get to my car and start to head to work.. Turns out my battery is dead and has corrosion all over the negative now too.

Got that shit settled out, then called my apartment to tell them my power was still out and to see if the in house guys would take a look. They call me a few hours later to tell me my electricity meter has been stolen.





After calling my electricity company all day I finally get them to come out and its all settled now, but holy shit lol.

In the last 12 years I've bought 4 cars. 3/4 the motors blew up. First, bought a 1996 Ford Contour in 2000 used. Rolled over negative equity. Head cracked after 6 months of driving it and I still owed $10k. Next car was a used oldie that went fine. Bought next a 1998 Saturn SC2 in 2002 while working at Saturn from a customer as his kid didn't take care of it and ran the motor out of oil. I replace the motor and reman'd motor we installed failed. Luckily that was replaced free of charge. Drove the Saturn for 8 years. Bought a 2002 Toyota Solara in fall of 2010. Valves burned up 3 months ago. I still owe about $4k on it. Motor is getting replaced right now and costing me $2600. Every time I try to buy a nicer vehicle the engine blows up lol

When I was 16 (In 2004), over Thanksgiving break I got a bad case of the runs. Finally around Christmas break I went in to the doctor. Turns out I'd lost ~60 lbs during that time. 1 colonoscopy later I was diagnosed with Crohn's, which I will now have for the rest of my life. I have never stopped having diarrhea for more than ~3 days the last ~8 years, except for a period of about a year around 2006-2007 when I was on one of the most powerful treatments available. I finally got a job, was able to hold it for a few months, started looking at apartments when my body figured out how to prevent this dangerous drug from preventing it from attacking itself. I went into a flare, lost my job, and have been stuck at home and struggling with my health ever since.

Edit: I know there's a few people on here that can top that for medical conditions, though.

That sucks man. Crohn's is fucked up. I took accutane for acne treatment and was told that's a possible side effect. I wouldn't wish that on anyone and pray I do not get it.

That sucks, who the hell steals a power meter?

I was being a nice guy, drove my buddy's car home (and let him drive mine) to give it a tune up/oil change/brakes (He was going through a divorce and short on cash, the car needed work, I figured I'd help him out). On the way home, I hit a DUI checkpoint by my place. I was dead sober, but his inspection, registration, and insurance were all expired/unpaid. Our state law means whoever was driving it, gets the tickets and ensuing court appearance.

Another one, when I bought my home I spent a month remodeling it while living in my apartment. The neighborhood had a rash of mailbox bashings, including mine, so I called the highway patrol (the house isn't in city limits, but there's a HP station literally 1/2 mile away) to ask them to patrol the neighborhood a little bit. While remodeling, I was driving my old beat up pickup truck to transport lumber/paint/etc (I normally never drive it except for those reasons, it seriously looks like something out of Sanford And Son). I pull in the neighborhood, get blue lighted and pull over. The cop approaches, has my buddy and me get out, he pats us down, has his partner search the truck, never gives us a second to ask wtf is going on. After he's done, I ask why he pulled me. He said "we've been getting reports of mailboxes being bashed and your vehicle looked suspicious". To which I respond "Well, I'm the one who called in the report, I guess I can't get pissed since you're here doing your job."

My hockey teammate has Crohn's and we regularly joke about who has it worse, him and his agony-inducing, diet-limiting Crohn's, or me and my potentially lethal but less agony-inducing, diet-limiting type 1 insulin-dependent juvenile diabetes. LOL

I was unlucky to come back to a terrible state after a couple years abroad. About 6 months after I left for Korea my driver's license expired. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal to solve this problem upon my return to Rhode Island, as I've been a licensed driver with a clean record for more than a decade. Turns out that since my license had been expired for more than a year, I had to go through the entire process of redoing a computer test to get a permit followed by a road test to get my license back. They made me wait 2 months between computer and road tests. 2 months isn't that long a period of time to not be able to drive solo, but it's a really long time to try and purchase alcohol with a fucking driver's permit.

Last year I went on vacation to Mexico to see my kids (whom I hadn't seen in two years), I was gone for a week. I had been out of a job for a few weeks but I took the trip on the goodwill of a friend of mine who gave me the money, since I hadn't seen my children in so long. When I came back home, my truck was gone from my apartment complex.

I was freaking out. I was certain my old truck was stolen, though who would want it (1997 Silverado with no brakes and 217k miles on it), I didn't quite know. I called the police, they said it had been towed. So I call the leasing office first thing in the morning and they confirmed the truck had been towed and give me the number. Turned out my registration had expired a full month earlier than I thought it did - totally my fault, but wow, if I'd known how hard that was going to fuck me ...

I call the towing company and they tell me how much it's going to be ... Nearly $400. I couldn't fucking believe it. So I told the guy on the phone I'd be there as soon as possible because I was going to walk and put on some sneakers, and walked the 4.5 miles to the tow yard.

Oh, and I had to stop at the bank, because of course they don't take debit/credit.

I get there and there's my truck. The guy is like, "I can't believe you actually walked," like I'd had any fucking choice in the matter seeing as everyone who could have driven me there was at work until they closed for the night. I checked the warning sticker they placed on my truck. It's a 24hour warning for you to fix the issue. They posted that sticker three hours after I got onto a plane. I had my tickets, I had my itineraries, I had at least a dozen witnesses to say that I was nowhere near Tampa, and this dickbag wouldn't budge on the cost. Then I get in my truck, the seat is wet because fucktard couldn't shut the goddamn door properly, and not only that, he'd rifled through the few belongings I'd had in the truck. I was so fucking pissed. Here I was, out of town, down on my luck and out of a job, I come home from saying the hardest goodbye I ever had to say (to my sons) and this asshole had the nerve to refuse to work with me on even the smallest amount of the bill. I have never had such a strong urge to shoot someone.

I just barely get the truck home after paying for the registration and the fucking alternator goes. Luckily at that point, I was still friends with someone would could fix it, so he did, but more money just went *poof* when I was still unemployed and unsure how the hell I was going to keep the roof over my head.

And the worst part? The absolute bitch of a worst part? I even asked my friend if I could keep the truck at his house for the week so he could keep an eye on it, and he said, and I quote, "I'm sure it will be fine," and I agreed. So if I had just listened to my instincts from the start the whole shit never would have happened.
