It's notable that this isn't "Mechwarrior 5"- it's a new Mechwarrior series entirely.

And it's set around 3rd-4th Succession War era. Rockin'. I'm hoping we get modders working on putting the "classic" models back in, now that the oldschool designs for Battletech are legally in the hands of the game again.

"In light of the recent announcement of the new MechWarrior game, Smith and Tinker has granted our online dev team MekTek.net (which has been supporting MechWarrior for almost a decade now) permission to release MechWarrior 4 entirely for free using the same type of distribution model that id Games used for Quake3's free release.

You can get it to work, you just need to fiddle with the compatibility mode, and/or patch some stuff depending on your video card. I messed with it just last christmas, it took a while, but all the stuff you need is on The MechWarrior 3 Community Project Patches & Updates

mechwarrior 2 was by far the best one ever. Mech3 was also good but ahmehgawd mech2 with the joystick was good fuckin times. If they would just remake mech2 with these type of graphics id be blown away. They could potentially make something better than mechwarrior 2 and 3 with this, hopefully they do it right.

You know, I was going to say something about a 360 port dumbing the game down for us PC users (as is the case for most multi-plat games these days and their shit interfaces), but then I realized how slow-paced MW combat was to begin with, so that worry died.

Regardless, looking gorgeous, which is something that wasn't a high-point of MW2 way back in the days until the Mercenaries expansion. (which looked gorgeous on my 3DFX Voodoo1 waaaay back then, "OMGZ TEXTURED MECHS!")
