    FFXI Server issues?

Hey, didnt know where to stick this. Was wondering if anyone else was get getting the "FFXI-3001" error. Every time I go to log in it connects and runs through everything fine, but at the last screen after I select my character the screen goes black for 3-5 mins then gives me that error. I dont know if it has something to do with my old lolPS2 or if other people are experiencing this issue too. Thanks

Yeah, I've heard lots of ppl getting this error since the update. They can get onto their mules but not their main character. It is a SE problem since the problem mysteriously goes away. Why it is effecting only certain accounts is not known.

Hope this gets resolved soon. It's getting real old, real fast.

I'm dealing with that same issue. I didn't bother to check the error, but trekking around the forums here I've seen several people mention login issues so I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope it's addressed soon or clears up somehow.

I was actually able to login for a short time for some reason, but nearly every time I attempt to get in I get the loading screen stiffarm.

I haven't been able to get on at all since the maint, you guys still having problems too? I dont see how I can be expected to pay this months fees when I cant get on at all. Has SE even made mention that they know of this problem? Its been almost a week.. :/

Are you logged off in Port Jeuno? The zone is usually full around this time of day, so trying to zone in/log in will usually do terrible things. If you aren't logged off in Port, and if it happens to you all the time, idk.

^^ This. 750 people in Port J = max, I just spent 20 minutes trying to get in. Set your HP/log out in Lower or Upper instead.

I got my main char stuck in Yhoator like this after OP warping. GM told me to search on their support centre page and the bolded part of this fixed it:

"PlayOnline (including all related software such as FINAL FANTASY XI) may use any of the following ports. If you are using a router, please configure it to allow packets to pass through these ports.Port numbers that may be used by the PlayOnline server group.TCP 25.80.110.443 or 50000 - 65535UDP 50000 - 65535*Your router may require that you use a PC to configure your network settings. For more information about how to configure your network settings, please refer to the instruction manual that came with your router or contact the manufacturer directly.*If your Internet service provider (ISP) specifies a DNS server, you may need to configure your settings to allow packets to pass through UDP Port 53 as well. For more information, please refer to the instruction manual for your router or the information provided by your ISP."

I had this problem for 24 hrs then it just went back to normal. I warped to xarcabard via Horst and got stuck. So my guess is the same as everyone else's.

Yeah thats how mine broke got stuck trying to warp from Horst to Taharongi Canyon. I clicked "Make it so.", and it got frozen on the loading screen and haven't made it back on since.

Yeah I dont think its because its because of the overcrowding in PJ (assuming if it were to be stuck in that zone) because it seems like no matter what time a try, morning, noon, or night, I cant get on.

Even if it is a router thing, which I doubt, I can't even find the fuck out how to set those things on mine. I'm lucky I managed to get out of my black screen in Port Bastok the other day, but I haven't been back since. The fact this is mysteriously happening to so many people after a major update is way too coincidental. Then again, maybe Comcast recently fucked with something, which seems to be what most people with issues are on.

Yeah Im on Comcast too but I doubt thats the cause. I mean if we can get on and load all the other screens 100% of the time, it has to be something with POL, SE, or the server itself right?

Well, if I'm understanding FFXI's server structure right from old threads and such, a server like "Remora" isn't just 123.456.789.111 or whatever IP it really is. Rather, it might be 123.456.789.xxx where the xxx's are then specific zones for Remora, each with additional ports that then handle things like mob info, our inventory, NPC interactions, and so on. So, when we start having troubles with one area, it doesn't automatically mean another is messed up. It also allows thing like partial zones maints without shutting down an entire server. What we don't know is if it might be our ISPs or a common hub mucking up our packet info somewhere or if it's an issue literally tied to the server and client relationship.

The other day a bunch of people just disconnected suddenly, myself among them. This was on all servers. I don't know if it's related to recent issues or just a niche incident. Regardless, I know this "black screen" bug isn't new, it's just seemed more frequent for many after this update. Of the few times I'd gotten it beforehand, at worst I was maybe locked out from a character for 4 hours. Realistically, I think it's some kind of anti-cheat mechanism that occasionally malfunctions due to the receipt of a bad packet and outright locks out connectivity until someone can investigate it, as I don't remember having this happen until SE announced the RMT pwner. Since some of these recent updates have been fudging with core mechanics like being able to deliver R/E items, there might be some spaghetti code bullshit going down that SE will never actually confess to and has led us to the usual canned responses about setting router ports and so on.

I had the problem when warping back to pj. I could log in to my mules fine. it took me over 20 min to log back into pj. It was an overcrowding issue.

change hp to a different jeuno zone at least, one of the home cities would probably be better.

It's just not just a Port Jeuno issue. Mine happened to be Port Bastok zoning in from North Gustaberg, while others have gotten stuck in Zvahl, Buburimu, East Saru, and so on. Way back when this has happened to me, it was Dynamis - Windurst and Rolanberry(s). I've gotten a new router since then, so it's unlikely to be solely that.

I got the problem again yesterday, this time in Tav, again a zone that wasn't crowded. Now I opened all the ports SE specifically said should be open to avoid this problem (the only reason I opened only that one measly port the first time was because I didn't realize that in my new router's menu you're supposed to just type in a whole range of ports into one small box which is barely big enough for one single 5 digit address; my old one had 2 boxes with a nice - between them for idiots).

Both times the problem persisted for a few attempts for an hour, both times it was fixed immediately after restarting the router after changing the settings and both times the router settings change+reset was only a minute or two after a failed attempt to log in. No coincidences here. If it's not ports, restarting the router did it, but I doubt I'll get this problem again now.
