    New bank help.

Need help choosing a new bank, going to switch out of my local bank and into a larger branch, probably into either TD, Bank of America or Capital One. Anyone know a little about any of these banks to help me make a decision? My local bank (Astoria Federal) is fucktarded.

Sent while having a prostate exam. feelsgoodman

What kind of account are you looking for? Checking? Savings?

I have TD checking account and it's fine. No fees, plenty of locations in the NY/NJ area, debit card, branches are open late. For savings accounts though you should go with someone online. INGdirect, Discover and AMEX have good high-yield savings accounts.

Its gonna be hard, your gonna have to just find the best individual option that works best for you.

B&A has banks everywhere..... and they can't rape you with $4 atm usage fees if your a member lol

Citizen bank (if any are near you?) are open 7 days a week 9-5 or sometimes later depending on where you are.

Bank of America is a nightmare, is there no Chase in your area? I've found them to be really fantastic.

TD Bank also has Sunday hours I believe, and Regis and Sam Waterston as pitchmen.

I belong to a credit union so I don't have a traditional bank, but my sister lives in Manhattan and has TD I think.

I love my Bank of America. ATMs and Banks everywhere, nice ATMs with check readers for quick deposits, app on my phone, etc.

I don't overdraft or whatever people get hit with fees for, some people seem to cry a lot about BoA. I got my account set up as a "college savings" account though, so there's no minimums or anything - maybe that's why it's good.

Any significant amount of money should be put into a higher-yield investment though - although ING and the like are paying sub 2% interest so there's not a ton of good secured options out there.

I'm trying to get away from BoA myself solely because of the $9 monthly maintenance fee. Was considering a credit union or something like USAA/Ally

from an insider, here's the scoop:

BoA is fine if you keep all your ducks in a row. if you don't, they are hell. if you overdraft, they are hell. if there is an error on your account, they are hell. if someone steals your credit card, they are hell.

basically, BoA is convenient if things are working as they should, but the moment a problem arises, be prepared to spend an eternity talking to the customer service of the damned. the only major bank that is worse is citibank - dear god, avoid citibank at all costs.

wells fargo is decent. chase is decent. both are easier to work with than BoA or Citi. both are far better choices if they are convenient in your area. keep in mind that wachovia is converting to wells, so if there are tons of wachovia atms or branches in your area, wells would be a good choice.

cap one seems okay. never encountered any problems with them.

don't know much about td. they seem alright.

and I work for one of these banks, but I can't tell you which or they'd fire me.

but please, do not sign up with BoA unless it is really your only option. like I said, they're alright... until they're not, and then they're REALLY bad. there's a reason they are the least popular company in america right now, behind comcast. that's right, they rank lower than comcast. would you bank with comcast? if not, avoid BoA.

until they send back your payroll accidentally because they do everything manually

I work in a problem resolution department and you would not believe the shit I see from credit unions. but there are advantages to them as well; I've seen them post shit to people's accounts based on name alone, so that's nice. I guess it depends on what you want in a bank.

I just want convenience, and assurance that some fat bitch isnt gonna have her fat eyelids obscure her vision when shes looking at my account.

My local branch has fucked up my checks 3 times. Twice in 4 weeks, they put my money into another person account. Another time, they disregarded what I wrote on my deposit slip and put the entirety of my check into my Savings and nothing in my checking.

Granted I should do Direct Deposit, but I dont plan on staying at my current job for too much longer.

I plan on managing my savings online, but through a major bank. I only have around 10k atm, I'm only 20.

I'm 28 and I have 3k. fuck. thanks for making me feel like a loser!

and for convenience, bigger banks will be your best bet.

TD or Cap One are both ok choices. just avoid BoA. seriously.

I would avoid any oversized bank like BoA, Citi, Chase, CapOne, HSBC or Wells/Wachovia..

not all banks are created equal. citi and boa are the two big ones to avoid. they're both total shit when it comes to customer service (citi being worse - that show "Outsourcing" seems to have been based on their customer service centers).

the other ones haven't given me many problems.

Like I said definitely do a high-yield savings account through ING,Discover, or AMEX if you don't plan to touch that money much. You'll get a >1% APR instead of the terribad .2-.3% that you get through other banks these days

Citizens is a decent choice.. just don't let them try to dick you around on fees. They pull that shit with me all the time so I have to watch my account like a hawk.

I don't have experience with TD or a few of the other banks in the area (Sovereign, New Alliance) but I Imagine they're on about the same level as Citizens.
