L4D Creator's new FPS is "wild"

The next game from Turtle Rock Studios raises the bar it set with superb zombie shooter Left 4 Dead, according to publisher THQ.

The developer is famed for creating Left 4 Dead, which was picked up by Portal maker Valve and refined for release in 2008.

Valve acquired Turtle Rock, but the developer surprisingly re-materialised last year under the guidance of its original boss, Michael Booth.

Last month THQ snapped up publishing rights to Turtle Rock's 2013 first-person shooter and now the hype has begun.

"It's incredible," THQ core games boss Danny Bilson told Eurogamer at E3 this week. "It's an incredible design. I can't wait till we share the concepts of that game, because there is some gameplay in there I've never played before.

"Those guys are really smart. They were the Left 4 Dead team and that was fun. This one's wild. I can't wait to share that one. People are going to go nuts. It's the most well-thought out design from the beginning I've ever seen.

"Everybody, when they hear that design, unanimously they just go, wow. I promise you'll do the same when you hear what that game is."

Turtle Rock and Valve's Left 4 Dead was one of the games of 2008. Its four-player survival co-op gameplay won critical and commercial acclaim.

"This one moves that bar up," Bilson said.

"It's our job to resource that properly so they can make it to the highest quality. That's all we can do. Those guys are really smart."

Bilson confirmed to Eurogamer that a full reveal of the shooter is due this year.

I agree, do want. I want to see them putout a strong Left 4 Dead 3 as well. There was something about the pizazz missing from the second one, that I'd like to see come back in the third.

L4D was fun, but it was only fun for short bursts and only with friends for me. I only really ended up playing it at home-made LAN parties with friends. L4D2 wasn't really worth the money.

I don't want to see a L4D3, it just feels similar to cod expansions at this point lol. It sold a ton of copies! Lets put out another next year. That one sold too, quick, make another! Need something new. Hope it really is something different.

Yeah, let's hope they know when to retire a franchise, even if it's just temporary, and actually move forward. I am feeling an itch of hype here... even though it's really just blind hype from "it's going to be amazing, trust us."

Based on how huge of an impact L4D made when it came out, I have no reason not to trust what they say. I can't wait, whatever it is.

Both L4D games were great to me, but L4D2 was just impossible to do with pickups. Would be nice if there's some sort of leveling/matchmaking system to weed out awful randoms at some point, I'm rarely elitist in games since I'm only a bit above average at most, but those games went from fun to frustrating in a hurry with incompetent teammates.

Overly hyping a game always leads to let down.

The publisher hyping the game means nothing to me, I just hope they can put out something more original than waves of zombies.
