Yugioh
The last time I saw a thread about Yugioh was back in June when someone posted a thread about selling/trading his cards. Anyone on BG actually play the game besides me? I've been working on a new deck since the new banlist came out and I'd like to get some opinions on it besides using Pojo.

Yup, I play as well and tend to play more on Byond's Duel Monsters Unlimited to practice different decks. I don't really use meta (boring really to play) but I can critique as best as I can.
-
Well, this is a deck that I've thought about building.
Monsters: 21
2x Blackwing - Sirocco the Dawn
1x Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind
2x Blackwing - Bora the Spear
2x Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame
3x Blackwing - Kalut the Moon Shadow
2x Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North
3x Zombie Master
1x Pyramid Turtle
2x Mezuki
1x Goblin Zombie
1x Plaguespreader Zombie
1x Dark Armed Dragon
Spells: 14
2x Allure of Darkness
3x Black Whirlwind
1x Giant Trunade
1x Lightening Vortex
1x Dark Eruption
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
1x Terraforming
2x Zombie World
2x Book of Life
Traps: 5
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Mirror Force
2x Bottomless Trap Hole
1x Call of the Haunted
Extra Deck:
The Usual
Any suggestions?

Much needed bump. >_>
So after the Sept 2009 banlist, we see cards get banned and limited that supposedly killed decks. Dark Strike Fighter banned and Gale at one was meant to be the end of Blackwings, Solemn down to one hurt GB players, CoSR banned etc. Anyone else find it funny that Lightsworns were practically untouched by the banlist, made Top 16 (9/16 players were running LS at that point) and not a single one of them topped?
Funniest thing is it was Blackwings that topped. lul.

Never understood why they make cards to ban them ~.~
-
Oh, they reprint banned cards as secret rares or some shit that are still unplayable :>. HORRIBLE marketing is HORRIBLE.
-
used to play it years ago, but overtime it just pissed me off for a few reasons.
1. i hate how after i collected some rare cards for my deck only for them to be reprinted as stupid common cards in a basic deck, annoying how i spent so much for that to happen.
2. Banned/restriction list was always changing, kind of like the first reason. By the time i got some good cards they become banned.
3. finally, theres no way am i going to collect cards from sets released every 3 months. When they made the change from the bigger sets to smaller ones, it was in my opinion too frequent.
I did have fun though while i was able to keep up, but the fact that i could never keep up with the rapidly changing environment just because they wanted to release a 60 card set with 10 ultra rares or something seemingly every other month was really dumb. Although i do agree there is some merit for the banned lists these days, i look back at my old deck and it is stacked with staple cards; raigeki, yata, vampire lord, fiber jar and all those stupid cards that really have no real strategy but to be overpowered.
-
well, to be fair, some cards just had to go; stuff like the Yata-lock (Chaos Emperor Dragon + Yata-Garasu = wat), Raigeki, Harpie's Feather Duster, Dark Hole, etc. were far too broken. Then again, limiting my Gale to one = FFFFFFFFFFFFF
oh well at least Honest is getting reprinted. :<

I actually like the new format. I dont play ygo competitively atm but i did used to and I still play the DS games online.
Currently the new thing seems to be Yugioh Virtual Dueling (YVD 9.0), a fan created online dueling program. They have their own forum at XC Forums with a lot of general YGO threads and such. Some of the matchplay on YVD can be seen on youtube
YouTube - YVD Duel: Lonestar vs. Mr. Jonas (me)
YouTube - YVD duel #1
YVD is updated frequently and used constantly. It seems as though the program is still a little bit in its infant stages(though its up to version 9. The update list made it seem like different card skeleton colors were JUST added)
I downloaded the program about 20 minutes ago just in case I thought I might want to try it one night. I don't really like the look program and its, I'd say, 96% manually operated(meaning if you attack someone you make it known and the person subtracts their lifepoints with a /lp command). I guess i'm just too used to Konami video games, its been some years since I last did that crap with pencil and paper.
Anyway if anyone on BG DOES already play YVD or maybe has a little crew of people that play, I wouldnt mind trying it out.
edit: videos arent mine

And to the people talking about why should they make cards only to ban them, most if not all cards don't get banned the day theyre released. The "developers" watch the tournies and see how people play certain things. Then if something is actually game breaking, then it gets taken out(for who knows how long)
A good example is that Monster Reborn just recently got re-banned after being unbanned for a couple of months. The reason why(i think) is that people were playing the game now that they didnt revive stuff from (their opponent's)graveyard as much as they did back in the day. But it's rebanned now and call of the haunted got unbanned. Changing the format just keeps the game fresher, they don't make cards that are intentionally game breaking(like yata-garasu), it just happens to end up that way lol
-
It's the fate of most CCG's- you can't really test card synergy effectively over time- the more cards that go into a game, the more likely someone will break some (or many) of them.
-
I rather like the ban list to be honest but I am surprised at Breaker being 3 now and D.D warrior lady being 3 too. I am disappointed though that Solemn is 1 but Dark Bribe is 3 -_-
And Lightsworn are still rampant regardless.
Wish they'd put Reinforcements of the Army back to 3 so I can have my D.D deck rocking again :\
-
I played yugioh for quite awhile. but then with school, and me playing FF11 again, I stopped. closest tournament place near me was an hour drive away. In the process of selling my cards now.
Just wish I sold all my Solemns sooner. sitting on 5 of them now, and theyre all worth about 30dollars less than they were a month ago.
oh.. and Call of the haunted is more broke than Monster Reborn is. at least with DMoC gone now.
-
Regarding banned cards too, nothing is as retarded as the way Magic does it. I played a little of it on and off with friends mostly using that program that can connect online with. I was disappointed in the way Magic likes to ban sets (I am aware of certain tournies allow all sets) and instead make you have to get new cards for new decks. I don't need a ruling like that to make me play different decks, I enjoy making random ones already that can potentially work for lulz like Wall decks and Solarion (my favorite).
Yugioh doesn't do it as bad. Worse case scenario they hinder something in my decks and I just have to adjust to work around it. They tend to target more overplayed/broken decks instead now. That and again I enjoy strange decks so not like they'd ever limit or ban something from there usually XD
-
problem is, if youve ever gone to a regionals, or a shonen jump, there's basically only 3 different deck types being ran. I remember a year ago at a regionals I went to, I went against 5 DAD decks. time before that it was all Glads. someone makes a good deck, then every single person net decks it. then something gets banned, someone replaces a few cards, and then everyone net decks that deck.
Thats why I liked Locals. I could run stupid stuff and still get 1st place.
My favorite decks I made was a Winged Kuriboh lv10 OTK, and a Plasma deck that abused Marauding captain, Hero Kids, and Pot of Avarice. I could almost literally get Plasma out any time I wanted.

Yeah LS are pretty much untouched by the banlist, but if you google "Sept 2009 Jump Top 16" you'll see that its not ALL lightsworns and glads on the list, only about half of it lol. But thats whats great about the list, is that other decks can actually compete now - frogs, the full Dark archetype, and a few more.
List:
Gladiators x3
DAD-synchro
LS x7 (a few synchro variations)
Blackwing
Van'Dalygon control deck thing
LS/DAD combo
Skill Drain (one of my new favorite types) x2
And to the post saying that Call of the Haunted is better than Monster Reborn, the thing is that Royal decree and Jinzo are both unlimited now. So many decks make traps completely unusable. I really wish Imperial Order wasnt banned, it should be limited imo. Worst case scenario its a 1 turn magic jammer, best case scenario you pay 700 life points every turn and noone can play magic(which is key to many many decks).
-
I liked Yu-Gi-Oh! before the game became all about molding your deck for some complex strategy that you intend on executing every single time you play. It's just not that fun when you follow a formula. I used to play my friends at Yu-Gi-Oh! and Crazy Bones all the time without getting bored. Playing spontaneously is what makes a card game, heck, any game new and different each time.

Glads didn't top 16 in Orlando. =/
Anyway, I hate SD/AM. Actually, to be more precise, I hate two on the fucking field at the same time akljgasdgkljasdlgkjadsflkjasflkj.

I'd love to try an assault mode deck. having a SD + a Red dragon isnt half bad either if let each other's effects bounce on each other and reuse the assault mode activates.
I think a lot of archetypes are ALMOST on even playing ground. I'm not sure whatll fix it, but it's close.
